Wimbledon 2015

There's been some excellent play, so far.... Heather Watson against Serena last week and Dustin Brown against Rafa. What's up with Rafa? Does he still have that original passion?

Now Andy is holding his own against a 6' 11er with a 136mph serve..... go Andy!

Although I have absolutely no interest in tennis, when watching the news it gets a mention. Murray doesn't come over as a particularly pleasant person, imo. I won't cry any tears if he loses, even though he is a Brit!

When he's away from the circuit, he is very different, Floo.  I think most players are too focussed on their matches to be that friendly during tournaments.

When Murray first appeared at Wimbledon I found him a refreshing change from Tim Henman (not that I have anything against Tim) who always said the right thing, had the right look and generally kept the media happy. Andy has always been completely himself - no airs or graces or 'I must be seen to be saying the right thing and having the right demeanour'.

Back to the state of play....

Djokovic is through to the last eight having recovered after a blip in his game yesterday, showing the skill of the champion that he is. Could we be heading to another Djokovic/Murray final.....

Well, Serena's through to the final..... no surprises there, really. Interestingly though, I reckon our girl, Heather Watson was probably her toughest opponent.

No R&Eers following the tennis?

Serena played better against Azarenka which was a better match than Watson v Williams as the two players played better at the same time.

Well, yes, I guess there's something in that deduction.

Who is your money on tomorrow re Federer v Murray? They're both in good form, but I think Federer will have the edge. Fingers crossed for it to go the other way, though!

iirc, their last meeting on grass went to Murray, but their last 3 matches on all surfaces have gone to Federer.  A close call?

I would have said Murray on basis of most recent form but Federer has looked utterly gorgeous playing here. The serve has been reinvigorated and it gives such a base for his ground strokes that they become sumptuous. my current thought is Federer in four but it could go either way, the great thing about tennis is that it does not really matter as long as they play well.

So Scotsman Andy Murray is defeated but plucky Brit Jamie Murray is in the doubles final.

But, yes, well done to brother Jamie!

Back to business.... I've only seen the highlights of Murray v Federer's match but despite the result, Murray appeared to have played well. Amazing comeback from him in the second set where Federer had five set points. Andy's slice back-hands are quite something to behold too.

So, we have the two masters in the final. It'll be an interesting match, but I find both of them so emotionless..... Djokovic in particular is like a machine. Think of the two, I prefer Federer's style.

Looking forward to the ladies final tomorrow, as well but, again, will only catch the highlights, methinks. It's that thing with relations at weekends!

In all fairness the mens game today is more interesting than it was during the Sampras era.

In all fairness the mens game today is more interesting than it was during the Sampras era.

The players are fitter than they were in previous years and techniques have improved. I loved some of the 'characters' from years gone by. Nastase was a favourite. When Nadal started out he reminded me of Ilie.

What's not true about it?

Simply because people do not say he's a Brit when he wins, and a Scot when he loses.  If they ever did, they don't now.
