You can certainly purchase some very nice wine abroad for less than £2 a bottle, but I suspect that Customs and Excise might take an interest in this scheme and you could find yourself with a bill for the duty.

I think it would be alright if it's for your personal use.  I have done the wine run to France a couple of times and on neither occasion were Customs interested in levying any kind of duty.  If you want to sell it, I presume it would attract the same taxes as any wine sold in the UK by retailers.

Hmm that might be true, the website seems to imply there are no more taxes to pay on it

http://www.portugalvineyards.com/general/faqs

However one of the stipulations on the government site is that you must transport it yourself, which of course you are not doing if it is delivered.

https://www.gov.uk/duty-free-goods/arrivals-from-eu-countries

probably a good ideas to check before ordering.

Well .. what's their shipping charge? Normally duty/vat applies to goods shipped from outside the EU (ie not for Portugal)

Has Portugal left the EU?

It's only because I don't believe you should be drunk whilst in charge of small people that I can't say the same.
