Dear Jim,

I will always remember him as the original spiv in the old St Trinian movies, the way he walked and the music they played as he walked.

Daley was a wonderful character, especially in the earlier series of Minder, and George Cole (like Patrick Macnee/Steed who also died recently) had a good innings and played his most famous role with (I think) a wonderful tongue-in-cheek approach. I remember when you could get 'Bought from Daley's Cars' stickers for rear car windows.

Not a bad legacy - he was also good as the young Ebeneezer Scrooge in the Alistair Sim version of ' A Christmas Carol' -  so, cheers George.

Makes me think, he did have a long life, in another hundred years will we say, why did he die so young.

I was struck by Bruce Forsythe's comment on our Cilla, 72 is no age to go :(

I, I regret, can think of far too many "celebrities" of one sort or another who, regardless of their age as at today's date, have already lived too long in the limelight. Miss/Ms/Mrs Hopkins springs to mind for one, and Kim Kardashian.

ITV Studios have done an incredible job of restoring, cleaning and digitising Laurence Olivier's Henry V. The Blu-Ray HD version is unbelievable. You cannot imagine it being a 1944 Technicolour film - it looks totally fresh, as though it had been made yesterday.

On of the characters - called simply Boy - is played by a very young George Cole, who is instantly recognisable. He must have been the last surviving cast (or crew) member of that film.
