I've grown and used herbs since I was a teenager. I don't really have a favourite as such. Our last house as a C18th thatched cottage and I planted up a herb garden with varieties authentic to the period. Grow the right varieties such as smallage, marigold and good-king-henry and you can put together a great salad. I also make my own herb oils and vinegars, dried herbs for sachets and use herbs in home made toiletries. In addition I'm interested in the history and folklore of herbs and gave a collection of books on the subject.

My herb garden here consists mostly of a large rosemary bush and some herbs in pots - although the garden is large it's mostly laid to lawn and has been taken over as a football pitch. I'm looking forward to planting up a proper herb garden again when we finally move, regardless of the style of house.

My favorites are Basil, sage and yes, Rosemary. (giggle)

Oh and I might mention here. I picked a very huge heirloom tomato in my greenhouse yesterday. It's a striped german, weighing in at 2pound 7ounces. I have broken my record!  Show you a picture of it in a couple days. Just waiting for it to ripen just a bit more on my kitchen counter.

Which are your favourite smelling herbs?

I love the smell of thyme, mint and basil.

I like different Herbs.
All have different properties in enhancing health and healing.
Just don't have the time to renew my herbs beds. Still grow mint in pot outside as it goes wild if left in beds,..

Honey bees love mint.  I use to grow some in a pot every year and enjoyed watching the critters working the mint blossoms. Now I have a few sunflowers around the yard and watch the bumbles.

Many herbs are good for bees and other foraging insects - lavender, lemon balm, mint, rosemary, sage. Fennel seems to be especially attractive to hoverflies.

Sea Holly is a beautiful plant in any garden and the bees and butterflies love it.

Well eventually I will eat it. It's a biggy so I will save the seeds, blanch and peel, chop up, into bags and into the freezer. I will mix it with my dark toms so that my tomato sauce looks the right colour.

Well I had to take the picture early.
