But people claim all sorts of things have appeared before them, the mind can certainly play tricks!

No decent deity would behave in the way the deity is supposed to behave. It has all the worst of human attributes, but that is hardly surprising as it is more than likely a very human creation.
So where do those human attributes come from, Floo?  Are you suggesting that it is genetically part of the human make-up?

Regarding the thread title, I think the important thing is that Jesus made access to God open to the whole of humanity, and therefore what he looks like is reflecting in  the variety of images that humans have made of him.  He is the ultimate 'Everyman'.
Are your, or your friends'/relatives', garages, lofts or sheds full of unused DIY gear, sewing/knitting machines or fabric and haberdashery stuff?

Just wondering flo... Why do you use the term 'the deity' instead of just saying god?
A lot of people don't believe that the loch ness monster exists. Now, I don't know anything about zooology, biology, geology, herpetology, evolutionary theory, evolutionary biology, marine biology, cryptozoology, palaeontology or archaeology... but I think... what if a dinosaur got into the lake?

She can't cope with the informality of the 'god' term, Samuel   ;)

It's rather more than 'imagine', ippy.  Rather like you and your views, this is what I believe (or are you saying that you don't believe anything?)

For as long as I can remember I have had this 'memory', which can only have been a weird dream. I was in heaven with the deity and the angels, apparently being one of them. ;D The deity, who appeared as bright white light, informed me that it was my turn to do my bit on earth. I didn't wish to leave my comfy, billet but arrived down here anyway! That no doubt accounts for my first three months of continuous infant screaming. ;D

That dream hasn't made any difference to my opinion that in all probability there is no deity or afterlife, and certainly not as suggested in the Bible.

What do believers think the deity looks like?
Well, that must explain your bilious attitude Floo.  ;D

It also points to the idea that we are a duality; a spirit encased in matter.

The question arises, have you done your bit on planet Earth?

The problem with Nick's comment is that religion isn't about hallucinations, Floo.  It has to do with beliefs.  I assume that you have some?

You can believe that you saw them but religion isn't about who or what you saw.

OK But if it's true then why is your life not so significantly different from mine. Why can't you perform miracles etc ??? What real use is your faith to the rest of us?

oooooOOOOOOoooooooooooooo... handbags... I was just asking. Its not exactly a typical way to refer to god is it? In fact you're the only one I know who routinely uses the term 'the deity' in situations where the word god would be expected. I thought it might be a matter of principle for you, but if it is mere whim then fair enough. The mystery that is Floo will remain impenetrable!

I refer to the Biblical entity as a deity, as it suits me to do so, no big deal. I take your latter comment as a compliment. :D

God is a Spirit and those who worship him, must worship him in Spirit and Truth.
