If I was able to get my degree I'd like to train as a psychotherapist and open my own residential clinic.

Sounds good, a good use of money.

Another idea I have is to run a retreat somewhere remote and mountainous.

Money can buy time to study, which is difficult to squeeze in otherwise. Else, it's a long haul till the kids start managing their own lives :) I've a degree in physics from over 40 years ago, from when all I can recall is being in a permanent purple haze day-dream - so I've recently started on an OU maths degree - so far so good, brain definitely needed something to crunch.
Ah, but I was so much older then ... I'm younger than that now

It would be nice to do what Muhammad Ali used to do:  ride around the poor districts handing out money.

But did that do any good ... in the long run?

Who can ever know.  It certainly would have done good in the short run.

However well-intentioned - and it always is - one-off, short-term charity with no long-term, thought-out plan behind it can create as many, or more, problems as it aims to solve.
Pain, or damage, don't end the world. Or despair, or fucking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man, and give some back. - Al Swearengen, Deadwood.

Ali was not trying to solve anything: he was just helping those in need of a few bucks.  It was just one way of caring., and I would do that on a regular basis if I had those millions.

Yes, a retreat centre would be lovely. That's kind of what I'd like - somewhere very lovely offering healing through being able to engage with the natural world, as well as the therapy side of things.

Yes, no point in trying to study just yet, got way too much on, I'll see where I am in a couple of years or so.

Good luck with the degree.  :)
