Canada ....thumbs up!
« on: November 07, 2015, 04:30:24 AM »
Hi everyone,

The new Canadian PM, Justin Trudeau, seems to be really good! His cabinet includes equal number of male and female ministers, includes minorities, ex-refugees...and so on.  He seems to walk his talk and also seems to have lot of energy.  I like the guy.

The fact  that he looks like a movie star is a bonus I suppose!

He campaigned on change. And within two days of being sworn in as Canada's prime minister, Justin Trudeau altered the course of the country.

"Over the course of the campaign, we promised you a government that will bring real change - in both the things we do and the way we do them," he wrote in an open letter to Canadians.

With a team of new ministers, Mr Trudeau acted swiftly.

After his swearing-in on 4 November, Mr Trudeau introduced his new cabinet which include 15 women and 15 men.
When a member of the press asked why he felt it was important to include so many women, he said, "Because it's 2015."

He described the full cabinet as "looking like Canada", including First Nations, minorities and a former refugee. The minister of transport is former astronaut Marc Garneau.

Other ministers include a physician, a UN peacekeeper, a paralympian, a geoscientist and a Lieutenant-Colonel in the Canadian Forces.

Mr Trudeau pledged to resettle 25,000 Syrian refugees by the end of 2015 (more than double the number presented by the former government).

To emphasise that commitment, during his first week in office, the prime minister changed the name of the citizenship and immigration department to "Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada".

Canada's stars seem to be on the ascendant.    :)

Cheers.

Time will tell of course, but he seems a lot better than their previous PM.

We haven't heard from Johnny Canoe (or whatever he calls himself now) yet! ::)
Does Magna Carta mean nothing to you? Did she die in vain?

Maybe we could start a thread predicting, from his posting history, of what he is likely to say. Especially on the matter of inluding the First Nations in his Cabinet.

And how many times he is, in the process, going to mention the "monkey on the rock".

You should read Lewis Carroll's 'The Hunting of the Snork' instead.

Why?

Would that be, "Snark," by any chance?
BA.

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.

It is my commandment that you love one another."

Not in this case, ekim was picking up on magic couple's frequent use of the word Snork, and altering the Carroll book for comedic effect. I thought it was funny, anyway, ekim.

It helps to be nearly sane to understand that.  :)

As Floo pointed out 'time will tell'.  It will depend on whether the cabinet ministers actually have the welfare of the nation at heart, or the welfare of the party at heart.  Do we know the backgrounds of the respective ministers and the correlation of that to their posts - or are they career politicians with little or no real-world experience?
Are your, or your friends'/relatives', garages, lofts or sheds full of unused DIY gear, sewing/knitting machines or fabric and haberdashery stuff?

I remember the crazy sense of optimism and uncritical hero-worship that greeted the Blair government.

That went well.

Justin is a chip off the old block. His dad was a lover of repressive dictatorships. The family is still very close to the Castro bros of Cuba. Fidel was a pallbearer at Justin's old man's funeral. And when asked what nation he admires most, Justin replied that he admired China most. The reason he gave was that it is a dictatorship and the government can do what it wants and quickly. He also believes the federal budget will balance itself.

Here's his old man after her sent troops out onto the streets to arrest hundreds of innocent people.
