Sunny but slightly cooler today, for which I am grateful.

Supposed to be 35 in parts of London, but only 31 at home.  Storms tonight, apparently,  with rain!

Definitely not 32 here as forecast, but muggy. If it rains tomorrow I am going outside to lie in it.

The temperature in my back garden is averaging out at 37.1

One sensor is on the fence in full sun 42.5 c

the second one is facing the former on the opposite fence 33.7 c

The third one is on the side of an outbuilding in the shade on the same side of the garden as the second one 35.3 c

The back garden is facing ESE app.

It'd be interesting to get these sensors calibrated somehow, I doubt there's anything like your friendly local thermometer calibration service posting leaflets through the door.

Anyway they're the readings they're giving me this afternoon.

Regards ippy

Well, we have just had a short, quite strong, shower of rain. And it is quite dark. Still very muggy though.

Woken by rain twice, about 3 am and again around half six, when I stood outside in my nightie for a bit grinning like an idiot. Like a sauna now though...hope to see some proper rain later.

Last summer was, by my standards, a beautiful one of rain and more rain. i think though that I have figured out why my grass is still not only green, but positively lush in places. I heard from a neighbour that many years ago the village well was on my driveway, and I think I must have an underground water source running beneath my garden.

A token effort at rain last night that wet the ground for perhaps 10 minutes and then disappeared. Forecast thunderstorms and overnight heavy rain nowhere to be seen. If you're in the East Midlands, marginally cooler today than yesterday - not great, but doable; tomorrow, niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice - 21°C, back to the good stuff.

Weather people: you're a bunch of lying bastards.

It is slightly cooler today, we are supposed to have thunderstorms this evening.

So much for the promised thunderstorms: nothing overnight, and today is hotter than ever. Today is the day on which the highest-ever recorded temperature in Britain is expected to be exceeded. Talk of rain tomorrow and Sunday; we shall see.

So far the weather bastards have been correct, a storm in the night and another first thing. Big ones not expected til tea time.

We have had thunderstorms in the Midlands with some rain as well.

Not much though

Amber? Southern twats. It was yellow here last night.

What happened? A slightly moist patio for about 10 minutes.

Enjoy your amber warning.

I dislike thunderstorms, having had bad experiences of them since childhood. I was very nearly struck by lightning some years ago. I always take out the TV aerial lead whenever we have a storm, or one is threatened. I am not sure if that is necessary these days, but better safe than sorry.

Still boiling hot in London, about 32 in the flat, but we are promised storms and rain, and a lot cooler.

Well, two lots of rain promised, two lots arrived.

And I'm not southern. Any more than the Midlands confers some honorary badge of northern-ness.
