We're now experiencing highs near 100º F.  But, we do still get rain, which helps all that is green and oxygen giving. (The humidity-plus-heat is murder, though if you have to be out in it for long.)

It isn't raining at the moment but it doesn't look as if it will be long before it does. I must keep an eye on my washing,

Just had a good downpour, a gully washer my grandmother would have said.  This 4th of July, I would be happiest if it went on all night long.  Even with my pups now gone, I still so dislike all the fireworks neighbors shoot off.  (It was awful when they were alive. Had to give one doggie xanax on the 4th and New Years.)

It is a lovely sunny morning but quite breezy, it is supposed to get much windier later on. I hope I can get my washing dry before it blows away.

Nice today. The forecast is for stormy weather with heavy rain for a few days, followed by a heatwave for at least a week, probably starting on Sunday.

It is now raining, it waited until I put my washing out before it started to bucket!

A bit of sunshine, a breeze, and quite a lot of cloud.

I wonder why the weather forecast and the actual weather events don't seem to coincide?

Weird day. Cold to start. Then like boiling a frog, temperature climbed. Brief bit of cloudy sun. Then thunder and lightning

My washing is jinxed, I can almost guarantee when I put it out it will rain, even if the sky is blue! It wasn't supposed to rain today, but within minutes of me putting it out this morning it bucketed! >:( Our eldest girl will no doubt phone in a while and blame me if it has rained on her washing, assuming she has put some out! ;D

I have been here is SW France (midway between Bordeaux and Toulouse) now for three weeks. In that time there has not been one drop of rain and occasionally the temperature has been close to 40 degrees. And it looks set to continue!

The best time to do anything is first thing in the morning and then to ... retire and watch the world do, well, not a lot, from whatever shade you ca find.

Humidity is variable but when it is high it means sleepless nights and a continuing sense of exhaustion.

I cannot recall it ever being like this before.

Hot again. Yesterday, I went for a short bike ride, but was unduly knackered when I got home, because of the heat.
What I posted on Facebook:
Short ride yesterday, though the heat made it feel much longer (mind you, it is fairly hilly).
Why does Garmin think Bullbeggars Lane in Potten End is called Catalina Road? Has anyone else noticed that sort of thing with their Garmin? When I'm approaching BB Lane on the left, it always says "Catalina Road Ahead"! There's a Catalina Road near Heathrow Airport, apparently, postcode TW6, but that's some way from Potten End...

Unpleasantly hot again here, we had a thunderstorm lasting well into the night, which kept me awake. Thunderstorms and I don't get on.

Thunderstorms and I don't get on.

Why am I not surprised by this admission?

I have been subjected to high temperatures (higher than those in north Wales) for four weeks now. I would love to have a thunderstorm with lots of rain. The rain would be refreshing and restorative. The electrical discharges would remove the positive ionisation from the atmosphere and make existing more comfortable.

Who knows? The ground might even turn green.

I read that thunderstorms will happen here tomorrow - can't wait - with intermittent rain for the following few days but high temperatures will persist. It's pleasantly warm right now but the temp will go up as the day progresses. I start work at 9.30 today and we have good air con  there (I have not so efficient air con at home but we cope).

When the rain comes I will go outside and stand in it.

I don't get on with thunderstorms, due to very bad experiences in my childhood when lightening  caused damage to our home. I was very nearly struck by lightening in 2002 when on a visit to my home island.

I insist on our TV aerial lead being removed whenever we have a storm, just in case.

That's interesting, LR.

For the most part, storms provide a demonstration of natural forces at work. Sometimes, as in your case, the forces can cause damage.

The only time I suffered from a storm was a few years ago, here at my French residence secondaire.  A lightning bolt hit a tree, some distance away and there were several subsidiary strikes. One hit the corner of a house opposite mine and the discharge - via my satellite dish - fried my Humax set-top box. I had a new one sent by Amazon from England.  I understand your caution.

Huge localized storms last night in North Lanarkshire and Perth. North Lanarkshire is only 15 miles or so from where I am but while friends there got no sleep due to the noise, and have several roads blocked with rain, there was nothing here

Another blazingly hot day, so I went for another bike ride. As I arrived back in Hemel, it was clouding over, and then we got thunder and lightning, followed by TORRENTIAL rain - some of the heaviest I've seen - and I was still a mile from home! I got soaked.

The sky has gone dark here in Lot-et-Garonne and its characteristic blue is replaced with grey. Suddenly there is a vertical streak of light and a long rolling noise. What on earth is happening? Cars need their headlights on and people rush from their cars to their front doors.

Water has started falling from the sky. It's just like those places along the valley road where farmers are spraying their maize - but it's everywhere and not coming from pipes.

Some of the old people are nodding sagely. Yes, they have seen it before, when they were much younger - months ago. They stand in a small group, talking wildly. One turns to the rest of us.

Yes. It is raining.

Still very hot in our part of the SE ... when the rain arrives I'll strip off and dance wildly in the garden :)
Ah, but I was so much older then ... I'm younger than that now

Hot and humid again today, we had a huge banger and flasher of a thunderstorm last night. Fortunately it doesn't appear to have caused any damage in our neighbourhood.

Lucky for some.  We had a direct lightning hit on a telegraph pole 15m from our house. Our land phones were damaged and we couldn't even get a signal with a backup telephone. We're relying on What's App at the moment. Fire brigade was called and checked the telegraph pole. Internet connection wasn't affected though. My wife was outside the front door at the time. I told her what probably saved her from being the focus of a direct hit was her thinking to herself, "then again, maybe there could be a God". ;)

Three Kcom vans are here right now, and the engineers are in the process of repairing said pole.
