I wondered if there was any mileage in having a thread dedicated to the weather? Us Brits seemed to be obsessed by it as we have so much of it. ;D

Winter seems to have arrived with an Arctic blast. We had a bit of sleety snow last night, which had cleared by this morning, thank goodness.
Much though I enjoy the warm weather, I equally enjoy the cold weather.  I wonder whether this winter is going to be one of those where we get limited proper cold weather, resulting in an 'explosion' of NHS-swamping illnesses as a result of nasties not being killed of as much as they might.
Are your, or your friends'/relatives', garages, lofts or sheds full of unused DIY gear, sewing/knitting machines or fabric and haberdashery stuff?

And thank goodness for it! We're in a tremendously fortunate position that the weather is extremely changeable so that we never get extended periods of any one thing, so it never gets boring.

Some sleet was forecast for the early hours; if any fell at all it was long gone by this morning, though it remains very cold and is expected to for a few more days.

Winter draws on.

It's the forecasters that rile me;  especially when they say such things as, "it will be a dry day, apart from occasional showers."  In other words, "it will be a dry, unless it's wet."     ???

When the temperature drops below 5 or 6 I have to wear two layers of trousers. It's very inconvenient. :( Where's the nearest part of the world where it stays above 6 all year round?

Thick frost here too, filling up the bird bath and the feeders in a minute.

Quite mild here, overcast and showery - just been out on the motorbike without needing to wear any specifically wet weather/winter kit.

Chilly, but bright - there was some frost first thing but nothing to write home about.

Quite heavy drizzle and poor visibility here. Cold, but not bitterly.

Miserable, grey, wet.

If I was listening to Leonard Cohen in the 70's I couldn't be more melancholy.

Each to their own - I love weather like this. (Mind you, I like Leonard Cohen as well).

Same here - that never-quite-fully-light look even at midday. And we're still three weeks away from the shortest day.

After a miserably wet weekend the skies are now clear, and it has got noticeably colder over the last couple of hours - snow is forecast for tomorrow morning.

What about a thread about the cost of veg?

Or even on the sugar tax...

Unnervingly warm here today.  I can't remember a December day when I didn't need a coat before. :-\

Pretty well all the predictions about the long-term effects of climate change involve the Bitish Isles becoming much colder and the climate what it should actually be without the warming influence of the gulf stream.

If we don't acknowledge that global warming is more than likely a fact, and try to do something to mitigate its effects, we probably will die out eventually.
That assumes we have caused this. If we haven't then we are just driving ourselves into a hellhole for nothing; which will probably kill millions anyway.

The science seems to support that we are contributing but many of the actions that are proposed are made necessary by the questions of scarcity of fossil fuels and security.

I didn't offer today's weather as 'proof' of anything.
