I have just looked out of my kitchen window and I can confirm that there is definitely weather here today.

I wonder why the weather forecasts are inaccurate 9 times out of 10? We have billions of £s worth of weather technology above the Earth, yet it appears the forecasts are less accurate than they were years ago. I have heard the weather ships they used to have in the Atlantic, were better predictors of our weather. What do others think?

According to the weather forecast for our post code it is supposed to be sunny all morning, but no doubt as soon as I put my washing out it will pour as it usually does, we shall see!

I wonder why peoples perceptions abour weather forecast results being wrong 9 times out of 10 - are wrong 97 times out of 100?

Yeah.  Weather forecasts cannot be innacurate nine times out of ten.  Were that the case, they would be abolished.

They are wrong sometimes is all.

Yes it is the same here but weather does change during the day so that's fair enough.  Also, just half a mile can make a difference to how much cloud and rain we get.

Most forecasts are based on large geographical coverage, and rarely take the various microclimates that exist throughout the UK - in fact throughout the world - into account.  The only way you are likely to get the kind of forecast that takes it into account is to listen to radio and TV stations that have extremely limited geographical coverage.

Predicting weather is inherently a very very difficult task, but somehow they have to try and justify the huge amount they spend on complex computing systems - so they just have to show a brave face and say something  that sounds credible while having some really good excuses up their sleeves

I haven't been reading this thread, but hope it's okay if I drop in with a question: did anyone else hear the shipping forecast - either yesterday or Saturday - just before 6:0 p.m. when a man read the word 'good' every time it occurred. Quite funny!

Saturday on BBC Radio 4 was the Day of Misrule and there was an underlying current of Twelfth Night throughout the day on the network. All the male announcers were obliged to wear yellow hose, cross gartered.

I noticed anything below 14c when I go out my nose starts to run, a blooming nuisence.

I was thinking of establishing a new way of calibrating our winters, last winter here was a two scraper, we're up to a four scraper already this winter.

Scraper = the number of times the car windscreen needs to be scraped clear before driving off anywhere.

I knew there would be a clever dick poster like you, but not such clever dick, what about the parts of your windows that are not heated, you're supposed to clear the lot before you drive away.

Whilst I'm sure none of us are that saintly and clear all of our window space before driving off but you would still be able to see that it's a scraper day even if you have a heated windscreen, so there, my scraper calibration idea would still stand.

You always get someone that tries to rubbish any perfectly sensible idea.

You did say "windscreen". That was the bit I was replying to. 
If you now want to add in additional bits then feel free.
Btw did you forget to add in the headlights which also need to be scraped?

Yes, those sticks can give you a right old scratch as well as damage your umbrella!!
