28 in our flat today, better than I expected.  About a week ago, we had 35.  Still, the cold beer tastes nice.

Same here, supposed to be 30 but it's not. High humidity though.

Getting hotter now, as the sun moves to the front, currently 31.   Beer!

A good measure for me is to look at my car's readout, which is usually at least a couple of degrees hotter than the real temp on a hot day. It's saying 31 so I know it's below that. Cars have thermistors located at the front near the radiator and their readings are skewed by road/driveway temperature. They are more reliable on cooler, cloudy days.

Yes, our car's been showing 33 or 34, so probably 31.

26°C tomorrow here, which is an improvement of sorts. (It's been 29°C).

The Met Office say rain tomorrow, but they taunt me with these promises then change it just as the wet stuff is supposed to fall from the sky.

Had one brief shower but nothing otherwise. Living in a beige world these days :-)

The weird thing is that my lawn is still green, and where I had it cut (which happens very infrequently) it’s growing again, at least in places. The only beige bits are where I let the grass grow and set seed.

I don't have a lawn but everyone else's grass is straw like.

We have had some much needed rain today, and might even get a drop or two more if we are very lucky. :)

The weather bastards were lying. Changed to clear skies again. Rain forecast for the end of the week but I’ve decided this is just some new form of mind torture to play on the people of East England. Especially when they say ‘and temperatures near normal in the West with a cooling breeze’.

I walked to town earlier - have to concentrate extra hard because of the contrast between shade and not shade - and there was a light breeze, cool enough to make the temperature pleasant. Helps being near the sea.

I have discovered that freezing a 2 litre bottle of water and then standing it in front of a desk fan actually does cool the air down.

I thought we all knew that?  ??? I always thought the idea was to have two bottles on the go at the same time: one frozen in front of the fan and another one in the freezer freezing to replace the other one when it thaws out.

(Plastic bottles only, please, if you're minded to give it a bash).

Something I heard the other day: have two fans going simultaneously, one in front of you and one behind you. Apparently the circulation of air around your torso cools you down.*

* Might be cobblers. Haven't tried it for myself and have no idea if there's anything to it.

I 'knew it', but I hadn't actually tried it. It really does work, which I why I posted it.

Yeah but I want the ice for my drinks.

It's never been hot enough for me to bother fannying around with freezing bottles till now.
