I was hoping for snow during the heatwave. Thank goodness it is considerably cooler today, the garden is being well watered as it has rained since late last night.

Where I am currently, SW France, it was 44 degrees on Thursday - and about 38 in the middle of the night. Yesterday we had dark clouds and about an hour of rain which reduced the temperature ... but it was still rather warm. Overnight rain and today overcast with a bit of very light rain has dropped the temperature to about 20 degrees.

Most people have their doors wide open in an attempt to replace the hot air inside their houses with something a little more comfortable. However, many older houses have very thick stone walls and these act as heat sinks, still retaining the warmth captured earlier in the week.

The sun is due to return tomorrow, but without the Saharan .. err .. reinforcement.

One thing one can almost guarantee with UK weather is that once it starts to rain it doesn't know when to stop. ::) It has been raining almost nonstop for about 36 hours.

I don't think it rains anymore here in Wales than it does anywhere else. We have lived in many different places North and South of the UK in our nearly 50 years of marriage, when it rains it rains wherever you are.

Couldn't you get them to use some kind of code - like give three rings, hang up for a few seconds and then ring again?

Our local Horticultural Society is always pushing dry gardens for us Essex lot due to the fact that we average out the  same amount of rain as Jeursalem Israel, formally Jordan.

Speaking in my best train spotters tone of voice, 'what about that precipitation after the air has picked up all of that moisture on its journey over the Atlantic it then gets pushed up higher as it rises over those Welsh mountains into that colder air etc etc'.

That's why it's so dry over here in poor old Essex, the Welsh keep on pinching all of that water before we can get our hands on much of it, thinking about it shouldn't wales be compensating the English for all of that rain of ours you keep on pinching?

Good idea but your good idea doesn't spike those automatic dialling machines the promo companies use, when these machines only pick up answer phone they, after so many calls scrub the ans/phone number off of their list.

Lovelt sunny, breezy day today. Yesterday, when I went for a 40+ mile bike ride to Hertford, it pissed down from mid-day onwards. Typical.

Woolly pully weather, here is SW France.  Temperature is down to mid 20s in the late afternoon, now.

Getting acclimatised for my journey north next week, I understand that the cool atmospheric conditions are being countered by columns of hot air in the Westminster area.

Sunny and then heavy showers as soon as I contemplate putting the washing out! :(

Thanks for that , Saney . I think it might be wise for me to seek a more sheltered area for a few days !
Yep! My wife was in Pune in India last week and they had flooding where over 20 people drowned! Batten down the hatches!

that is horrendous !!!
Coincidentially I have two hatch like skylights on my roof and was up there about three weeks ago reapplying silicon sealant to one of em after a small leak . It seems to have done the trick so far and has resisted the latest storms/winds . I just hope I've done enough for the next few days worth .
