Poems and odes....
« on: January 20, 2016, 03:52:09 AM »
It has been a long time since I wrote new poems. Life been difficult and sometimes sad.
One of my friends passed away on Friday. So many sad memories the death of my Father, sister and brother.
It is a bit rusty a bit like writers block so please forgive this feeble attempt. But I need the practice again.

Last year I remembered you.
Yesterday, I remembered you.
Today, I remembered you.
And tomorrow, I will never forget you...

As the seasons of life have passed.
The wine, the roses and the laughs
Nothing lessens or dulls my mind.
Your caught up in my living time.

The love had never faded.
The missing you has never ceased.
I live each day without you.
Memories replaying each scene.

So many loved ones passed over.
Close family and friends alike.
I raise my glass of life to you all.
I thank you for your taking part.

Though years are passing quickly now.
The sunsets never change.
Your ever young in my memory
For you, the years brought no change.

Your names I often speak.
Sometimes it brings a tear.
But I love the smiles and grins
Of the funny things you did.

Friends or Family, I miss you.
I love you and I forgive you.
You left too soon and went your
way. You took my love with you.[/i] ©  LJI...

Very touching, Sass! It resonates strongly with my feelings.

Sadly, the older we get, the more we remember the past.

Very nice, Sass.  Reminds me of a couple of lines in Ted Hughes which always give me a pang:

"Remember how we picked the daffodils?
Nobody else remembers, but I remember."
They were the footprints of a gigantic hound!

The first clump of daffodils are just blooming in my garden.

And me. The older I get, the more I become aware that I am the last receptacle of more and more cherished memories, once shared but to be shared no more.

Leaves me feeling quite isolated at times, I guess.

Know that feel, bro, as I gather the youngsters are wont to say.

There's the old story of climbing up the mountain, and at first, there is a happy gang of ramblers with you, chatting and joking, and gradually, they peel away through one thing and another.   In mid-life there are still a few with you, but when you get to the top, you are alone.   Oh damn, that's just too much like Keith!  There's moonlight and roses and wine and big-busted wenches!
They were the footprints of a gigantic hound!

That's a pity, Rhi. Mind you, apart from the anguish and suffering around us, there's a big old exciting world out there, just ripe for the picking...if it wasn't for the arthritis, the tinnitus, the back problems.....oh Gawd, I've just talked myself back into  the Keith syndrome. ::) :)

Yes, this is my thoughts... just because my past is unhappy, my future doesn't have to be. Know what you mean about trying to grab it with a back problem though.

I find the poetry of the First World War tremendously evocative and deeply moving:

Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom ...

Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom ....
Pain, or damage, don't end the world. Or despair, or fucking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man, and give some back. - Al Swearengen, Deadwood.

Sounds like a Basil Brush echo.. ::)

Boooom Boooom Boom! That's definitely better.

I guess somethings just aren't original or funny for that matter.

But we can hope for better.

What's the difference between a suicide bombers rucksack and Basil Brush?

A suicide bombers rucksack only goes boom once... boom boom boom

Some song lyrics are really good.

Heaven can wait
And a band of angels wrapped up in my heart
Will take me through the lonely night
Through the cold of the day
And I know
I know
Heaven can wait
And all the gods come down here just to sing for me
And the melody's gonna make me fly
Without pain
Without fear
Give me all of your dreams
And let me go along on your way
Give me all of your prayers to sing
And I'll turn the night into the skylight of day
I got a taste of paradise
I'm never gonna let it slip away
I got a taste of paradise
It's all I really need to make me stay
Just like a child again

Heaven can wait
And all I got is time until the end of time
I won't look back
I won't look back
Let the altars shine

And I know that I've been released
But I don't know to where
And nobody's gonna tell me know
And I don't really care
No no no
I got a taste of paradise
That's all I really need to make me stay
I got a taste of paradise
If I had it any sooner you know
You know I never would have run away from my home

Heaven can wait
And all I got is time until the end of time
I won't look back
I won't look back
Let the altars shine

The original lyric is simpler and far better.

Heaven can wait
This is paradise, just being here with you
And breathing the air you do, heaven can wait
Darling, it’s true, this is paradise
Gazing at all your charms
It’s heavenly in your arms, heaven can wait

You must be an angel on a visit from the skies
Now I look at heaven when I look into your eyes
Heaven can wait, this is paradise
Loving the way we do
Until I go there with you, heaven can wait

Some song lyrics do have a way of encapuslating feelings. I am feeling quite blue at the moment and this song's lyrics somehow resonate with me....

Whose sticky hands are these
And what is this empty place?
I could be happily lost but for your face
Here stands an empty house
That used to be full of life
Now it's home for no one and his wife

It's a hovel and
Who can take your place?
I can't face another day
And who will shelter me?
It's cold in here
Cover me

Under these fingertips
A strange body rolls and dips
I close my eyes and you're here again
Later as day descends
I'll shout from my window
To anyone listening, "I'm losing"

Who can take your place?
I can't face another day
And who will shelter me?
It's cold in here
Cover me

Oh, in a plague of hateful questioning
Tap dancing every syllable from ear to ear
I hear the din of lovers jousting
When I'm hiding with my head to the wall

So who will shelter me?
It's cold in here

Thanks Sass - not really feeling better - but it is one of our society's biggest mistakes+ us personally to think that life is always going to be ha,ha,ha. It isn't - you just have to keep on keeping on.

You sound like you could do with planning a holiday somewhere nice 💐

That usually cheers me up ( unless I'm skint and a bit short of dosh)

Sounds like you need to treat yourself to something :)

Hi Trent,

It is true for many of us... I just got to the stage of wondering when the laughing is going to start again.
But we are not alone those of us who feel the on-going strain and stress that life brings us sometimes.
Nevertheless, I really do hope you soon get some more ha,ha,ha...
