It's an unfortunate fact that in past days there was very little compassion towards women who had long and painful labours.  It was considered to be 'a woman's lot' and that must have been based on an interpretation of Biblical teaching.  The same goes for withholding analgesia for those suffering a painful illness.

I cannot imagine for one minute that Jesus would have stood by and seen someone in terrible pain and discomfort, mental as well as physical, and told them to bear it bravely for the sake of their soul.

Queen Victoria - who had much experience - was very vocal about pain relief being given in childbirth and since her time, it has been better, and safer.

I understood this passage to be saying that the dangers of childbearing were the curse pronounced on the woman after the Fall. Paul has just described the woman's part in the Fall. So in that context: her own eternal salvation and that of others depended on Eve and her future daughters risking childbirth, so that the Messiah would be born. This is "the childbirth" Paul is referring to. Since the Messiah has now been born and finished His work, Paul says that women would be saved through the birth of the Messiah if they continued to live a godly life.

That is GARBAGE!

It will mean nothing to someone who doesn't believe because they will not consider anything from the Bible to be reasonable, regardless of interpretation.  However fellow Christians will find it interesting and probably agree with what you said.

I will do so Spud but I have read similar before which tied in to what you said.
Floo doesn't mean any harm.  Well - she doesn't do any harm to us, does she.  If I'd had some of the unpleasant experiences she has had with church and churchy people, I might have an aversion to Christianity.
