1080i and 1080p...?
« on: April 02, 2016, 08:06:26 PM »
I don't usually bother with settings and the like but I've been looking through my TV manual and came across this stuff in the title. I flipped through them and they seemed to make no difference to the picture. As usual with manuals they say bugger all about what this and that is actually about, so can anybody explain what the two "i" and "p" are about, and how you know which to choose?

Sometimes I wish my first word was 'quote,' so that on my death bed, my last words could be 'end quote.'

Well, that explains why I couldn't see any difference. One less thing not to bother with. Thanks.

This article refers to US usage where the refresh rate is 60Hz - meaning that for 1080i the whole screen is refreshed 30 times in each second. In the UK the refresh rate is 50Hz, which is 25 times a second for 1080i.

It is quite possible that on a large screen - say more than 40" -  fast moving scenes may just look a little ragged with 1080i.
