Definitely and it's appalling, poor kid.  I think her parents ought to just tell their daughter that the members of staff who complained are jealous of her and ignore the rest.
Kids have enough to put up with from other kids who tease about how they look (not usually so flattering), or dress, without teachers chiming in.  How selfconscious she is going to be now.

The Head teacher ought to be ashamed of herself (or hisself, I didn't notice).

I usually think stuff about children shouldn't get into the papers but on this occasion it is so outrageous I really don't blame the parents for going to the press.

The girl looks very nice in her new specs and not a lot different from any other schoolgirl with long brown hair.  What do the school want, for girls to put paper bags over their heads?  Honestly!

Is this another case of over-reaction

http://southendnewsnetwork.com/news/outrage-at-southend-school-after-girl-is-sent-home-for-looking-too-pretty-in-uniform/
No.

It's a case of you not recognising a wind up when you see one.

For starters the page carries the line "The latest news from Southend,  honest...".
Next, the family's name is the Prudence's and the head teacher's is Dr Gland.
Then if you click on the home page the top article (atm) is about an inspirational poster being attacked and ending up in intensive care.
Then if you go to Southend council's website, you can check their list of schools and find there's no such school.

I've seen and had to teach pupils who have had far more 'attractive' facial looks than this lass.  OK, in some cases, that has come as a result of very professional use of make-up - which wasn't the case here - but which is usually against a school's rules.

Whilst this lass certainly doesn't look 'Plain Jane' in any way, I'd say that she looks pretty normal for the average school.  Her 'downfall' would appear to be her high cheek bones and the flowing long hair.  The head could probably have got away with simply asking her to tie the latter back.

Thanks for noticing that, SV.  I looked again at the page and some of the stories in the right-hand column also give the game away.  However, I would suggest that the answer to Owl's opening question is 'Yes'.  ;)

Southend News Networks's their very own Newsthump. It's a spoof.

They did a story on how the town was struggling to cope with an influx of migrants from Kent once.

Yes it is a wind-up!

This was obvious from even the most cursory examination of the page.

I am sorry, but, to be perfectly honest, I have become more than a little jaded with the almost total lack of any but the most weighty and serious topics here, and the post about the red-headed boy and this lassie were an attempt to counter the normal concrete with a little fluff!

Nice to be at home though, isn't it ippy?  At least preferable to school.  That's how I felt. I was a naughty girl.  :)
