I've figured out to get a response you have to type something in and push return.

It reminds me of an old game I owned on the Oric computer long before the home PC.

You had to release the singing bird to attack the snake which was blocking the way, that was just like this one, all words.

Back in the bad old days  ;)

Can anyone else get any further than being told you are using hello in a way unfamiliar, and talking to yourself is a sign of mental collapse?

It's the hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy, so it says...... Perhaps I ought to try 42

 ;D

This is like the old text adventure games for the Spectrum - currently I've got out of bed, turned on the light and been told about the messy bedroom - dressing gown, flathead screwdriver, toothbrush etc - think I'll put on the dressing gown now.

There are some excellent iPad apps that work similarly. There's one where I chop a lot of wood before getting eaten by wolves. Or I don't chop enough wood and my entire village dies. I probably need to get them some takeaway or something.

My daughter has one where she has to look after a student spaceman.

I've opened the curtains - there is a bulldozer outside - took the analgesic and the room has stopped swimming.

0 out of 400 :(.

I kept dropping everything I tried to pick up.

I went back to bed and told it to go to sleep.

Dead - with just 10 points - I think the the mistake I made was try and brush my teeth without picking up the toothbrush first. This caused the bulldozer to demolish my house, injuring me, and on my way to hospital the Vogons arrived and demolished the Earth.

So - we go again.

In the dressing gown pocket - put you have to put the dressing gown on first and then look in pocket..

I'm now outside, having picked up the mail, and am lying in front of a yellow bulldozer being shouted at by a chap called Prosser.

When I got up the bulldozer flattened the house but I'm safe - no Vogons yet.

This is the old Infocom adventure game version of the Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy. All of you people saying "I remember playing something similar to this on <<some really old PC>>" are really remembering this actual game.

So that isn't an Infocom adventure, that is the original adventure game, called "Adventure" or sometimes "Colossal Cave". That was the original first ever text based Adventure.
