Witches Prison - Aberdeen
« on: June 11, 2016, 10:44:54 PM »

Interesting item on an excavation at Aberdeen's Church of St Nicholas Church

 http://bbc.in/1WGvz18

Another masacre of innocents by the Catholic Church - thankfully it was 500 years ago so it can be safely ignored as anciemt history and irrelevant in today's world.
The Holy Bible, probably the most diabolical work of fiction ever to be visited upon mankind.

An it harm none, do what you will; an it harm some, do what you must!

It's all we can do.

Classify it as ancient history and not see it as significant with regards to Catholics of today.

Sorry to disagree Rose, but, just so long as the Catholic Church follows the Bible and the Bible contains Exodus 32:18, I consider that it IS significant, even today.

And not just the Catholics, any Church that holds the Bible as the revealed word of their God.

You find it that threatening?

No one does that anymore, based on that verse though, do they?

Israel doesn't stone people for adultery either ( which is also in there).

Judaism and Christianity moved on, Islam hasn't yet.

The Catholic Church is losing its influence anyway, pretty much.

It's getting toothless now  ;)

The nature of the threats has changed.

The Catholic Church isn't as influential as it was.

What exactly is the difference between the Bible and the Qu'ran?

They are both the revealed word of the God of the religion that follows it.

The fact that the Bible is not, at the moment, followed to the letter does not change the fact that it remains the book of instructioins of the God of the Christians and, I would venture to suggest that those Christians who are quoting the "Man must not lie with man as with woman" this very day in America following on from and in praise of the Orlando massacxre (Westboro for one) believe just as fervently in 22:18 (sorry for the 32:18 mistype!)

I think that's a bit harsh on all American Christians, we mainly hear about the nutters in the uk, not the nice ones.

I think most Americans who are Christian are appalled by the goings on with those shootings, (no idea if  Westboro have commented on it,but they seem to court the idea of being the most unpopular.  Being unpopular kind of validates themselves in their own eyes.)

But most Christians in America seem horrified by it, they might not agree with homosexuality, but that doesn't mean they support or praise this murder.

The difference between the bible and the Quran is the context of when it was written.

One was over many generations, the other all at once as a complete book.

One has many peoples influences and experiences, the other, only one, Mohammed.

This is the important part of my objections to the Bible as the revealed word of the Christian God - that "it was written over many generations" by people who had absolutely NO connection with the time that, supposedly, Christ lived and preached and thus have no idea whatsoever what was daid or done.
