Democracy is dead in the UK, or at least is dying!
« on: June 27, 2016, 12:17:39 PM »

The Remain group is dremanding a re-run of the Referendum!

Why?

Because they lost! They want time to try and scare enough people into voting Remain to reverse the count!

A Labour Remain MP is demanding that the Commons ignore the result.

Why?

Because Remain lost!

This is democracy? How many times do they want the Referendum re-run before they are going to realise that each time it is re-run they are likely to lose more votes because they are being un-democratic lousy losers?

Maybe the Germans should demand a re-run of the 1966 World Cup Final!
The Holy Bible, probably the most diabolical work of fiction ever to be visited upon mankind.

An it harm none, do what you will; an it harm some, do what you must!

I admit to wondering if there would have been a demand for a re-run, had the vote gone the other way.  In that case, the Remainers would have been content, we'll never know if the Brexit-ers would have asked for another vote.

If it becomes apparent over the next few months that Leave was a disastrous mistake, and everybody changes their minds, surely the democratic thing to do is have another vote.

Except for Farage being o record saying so in the result of a 52/48 vote.

From the BBC in May

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-eu-referendum-36306681

"In a 52-48 referendum this would be unfinished business by a long way. If the Remain campaign win two-thirds to one-third that ends it."

So even a prominent Leaver thinks it would be OK to have a rerun.

Unless the lying sack of shit was lying again.

And on the subject of the overly dramatic OP, I would suggest that being able to at least question the action that should be taken from what is an advisory referendum in a democracy where parliament is sovereign on the issue and only last year was elected with a large percentage of MPs in favour of Stay is democracy. As it happens, I think they should start negotiating to leave but democracy is a complex subject.

The petition that has now been signed by over 3million people was started by an exiter when the polls looked like the vote would go the other way.

Farage was talking about there being violence on the streets of the UK when it looked like the vote would go the other way.

We've had over 40 years of government when each and every General election has elected a government that supported the UK's membership of the EU. Even at the last one Cameron campaigned on the basis that he'd campaign to keep the UK in and around 75% of all MPs in the current parliament support the UK being In.

Democracy is much more complex than a one-off plebiscite.

I don't know how reliable the information is but . . .  someone just told me that the petition was set-up some weeks ago by a Leave supporter  :o

Apparently they were expecting to be on the losing side!

That's because it was.

I suspect that if one spends one's time campaigning for the English Democrats (slogan, Because Scottish racists can fuck off) one gets used to being a loser rather quickly.

Irony meter in overload:

To quote:

"Mr Healey has apparently disowned the petition, describing himself as its “creator, nothing more”, and has turned his ire on the Remain campaign.

“I am genuinely appalled by the behaviour of some of the Remain campaign, how they are conducting themselves post-referendum not just with this petition but generally. The referendum was fairly funded; democratically endorsed, every vote was weighted equally and I believe this was a true reflection of the mood of the country,” he said."

He is outraged because Remain are doing exactly what he planned to do!!!!
