Plane Crash lands at Dubai airport

One firefighter was killed, but 300 passengers got off, although a few were injured.

Thank goodness most people got off safely.

It could have been so much worse  :(

It was incredible that only one person was killed.

My husband's nephew was the person in charge of that airport until a couple of years ago.

One giving their life for the many. How brave and selfless.
It is a happy day for the passengers let us hope they remember the firefighters family and make their thanks known.
Thank God it was not worse.

A most admirable sentiment, Sassy. I fear that what I want to say will seem trivial and unworthy in the circumstances, but why are you - of all people - being politically correct?

The firefighter was a man, so couldn't you have reflected that instead of using the impersonal plural?

One giving his life for the many. I actually think it is more respectful.

You are being rather pedantic aren't you?

I'm not sure that "pedantic" is quite the correct word, but I'm fed up with seeing their or them instead of his or her or he or she. It is an example of one of the worst features of political correctness - the anonymisation of individuality.

Which do you find preferable?

If someone finds a lump in their scrotum ...

or

If someone finds a lump in his scrotum ...

What difference does it make?

I don't really think so. It could have been a communal scrotum.
