BBC is on the way out.
« on: August 24, 2016, 11:54:11 AM »
Given established right wing bias in the BBC and it's bloated nature. The clock must be ticking before mass sackings and review of the BBC.

How did the BBC get into the position where it mainly accepts Government statistics and left the statistics and claims of Right wing Brexitters unchallenged? And it's focus on humiliating Labour.

If an internal investigation over it's own conduct doesn't occur that will be further evidence.

A recent example is the BBC's slimy reposte to Scotland's claim warning of Brexit problems.

Another is the Jeremy Corbyn Chair business.

The BBC must love the saps around here who allow the BBC to act like Sky because they are afraid of, er, Sky.

It's the first time I have heard the BEEB described as 'Right Wing' ! Most people believe that it is run by 'Arty-Farty-Lefties'.

I agree that the institution is 'Bloated' and they were really crap at presenting the referendum debate. They seemed determined to 'balance' the two sides even when the Brexiteers were clearly lying through their teeth.

(I'm not aware that Jeremy had a chair business, I can't imagine him organising a piss-up in a brewery)

I was going to write that I suspect that when Vlad was a baby, he was kissed by a fairy and given the gift of seeing everything in a totally different way than anyone else. But now JP has me wondering whether or not there may have been some viral infection instead.

I don't think that there is much evidence that the BBC is a right-wing organisation. I thought that the last Secretary of State for Culture Etc Etc, the redoubtable John Witlessdaie ..oops... Whittingdale wanted to get rid of the Beeb and possibly privatise it - or he may have been waiting for his spiritual advisors (the Murdochs) to give him some such instruction.

The Cameron government certainly failed to see the value of the BBC and wanted to bring it to heel.

I think that the BEEB have over-stepped the mark in many ways. The government gave them a big pot of cash for the digital switchover and relocation to Salford Quays and they seem to have been 'Empire Building' ever since.

A recent report, presumably based on air time, states that most BBC political statements are based on information provided by the government.

The BBC failure to challenge Brexit versions was palpable.

As is the focus on the labour party.

The majority of BBC political correspondence is drawn from the public school system with many having conservative connection.

What is the evidence for left wing bias?
I would imagine left wing bias means less than total subservience to right wing views. The right wing have form in that respect.

If the BBC have freedom from right wing bias it is the freedom to promote sensationalism in news and hence society.

And what 'established right wing bias' would that be, Vlad.  Remember that there are as many accusations of its left wing bias as its right wing bias - suggestion that it is pretty solidly middle of the road.

How did the BBC get into the position where it mainly accepts Government statistics and left the statistics and claims of Right wing Brexitters unchallenged? And it's focus on humiliating Labour.
Interestingly, Vlad, it produces and uses as many of its own statistics as Government stats.  It also uses Opposition stats pretty regularly.  Secondly, what 'focus on humiliating Labour'?  Not only are Labour very busy humiliating themselves, many media outlets are reporting the whole thing - and just as idealistically.

If an internal investigation over it's own conduct doesn't occur that will be further evidence.
What would you expect such an investigation to reveal?  Would an independent investigation find anything similar?  Remember that one reason the current Government has been so determined to demolish the BBC's influence is because of the left-wing bias that they believe exists throughout the BBC.

hadn't realised that there was a BBC reposte as such.  Seem to remember that the BBC has produced some excellent, and balanced 'riposts' to both Bremain and Brexit arguments.

Quote
Another is the Jeremy Corbyn Chair business.
Is that related to the Virgin train video, JC has produced?

If most of what the BBC states politically is provided by the Conservative party and if the focus of coverage is on and around the gaffes of the opposition parties then I'm afraid that is by definition right wing bias.
Next comment please.

Vlad, you accused the BBC of being in a 'position where it mainly accepts Government statistics'.  Having listened to the BBC for several decades now, I'd suggest that it does this no more now than it has done in every other decade I've been alive.

By the way, I'm still waiting for a link to this 'recent report' you referred to.  Citation, please.

Well if the BBC deems fit that on it's coverage for today there is only one aged story about the tory government as opposed to everything else focussing on the difficulties opposition parties how will we ever know?

That's what is happening at the moment. You will need to do a lot more surveys and do some statistical analysis before you can claim anything is established. Until then it is your opinion.

Surveys of the BBC on-line political news coverage show that it reflects the political events of our and other nations' political machines, Vlad.  I would suggest that a month or two ago, the number of negative stories about the Tory party out-numbered those about the Labour Party.  On that score, the BBC would appear to have a left-wing bias.  By the way, some of your 'Labour-related' stories are a month or two old, in the same way that the May-story you mention is.

This talks about the BBC trust report on BBC overuse (dependency?) of figures from the government.

16 stories about the opposition mostly about the troubles against 1 old story about Mays cabinet.

That is appalling.

16 stories about the opposition 8 stories about the Government barely acceptable.

16 stories about the opposition 12 about the government acceptable.

It's not a question of shouldn't report it's a question of should but aren't.
