Keith Vaz and his washing machine business
« on: September 04, 2016, 04:42:53 PM »
I do hope he has paid his taxes for the washing machine business so that if he paid for escorts and the cocaine it wasn't through tax avoidance

Oh NS, you do make me laugh  ;D.

I was gutted this morning when I read about Keith Vas's fall from grace, it's so sad.  Still he has regained some honour by his apology, directed especially to his wife and children, for his actions.  A lot don't do that, they bluster and deny for a while.   Poor soul.

His washing machine business is something I know nothing about and if I was in a different mood I might make comments about beautiful launderettes but not today.

He claimed to be someone called Jim in the washing machine business to the escorts but I love the beautiful launderette reference

It's just another case of someone famous being found out for having extra marital affairs. Feel sorry for his wife and kids. Nothing more to see here. Move on there sonny.

except it's the Chairman of the Home Affairs committee which amongst other things reports on sexual exploitation and what laws we should have on prostitution, and drug use. And he offered to pay for an illegal drug.

Context is important here.

That's true but he's still a human being at the end of the day and he got caught!   There must be many in high places who don't.
He's stepped down, owned up, apologised which was right but many don't so quickly.  I feel sorry for him and hope he can get on with sorting out his life quietly and privately from now on.

Well floo, I am not perfect so I don't feel that I can judge him.  I'll leave that to others.  He didn't abuse anyone from what I've read, he's hurt his family, he is sorry.  What do you want, blood?

Yes where public figures, especially politicians, are concerned!

Is your position that any person who has an affair, can't be an MP?

I think the offering to pay for cocaine may well be a bigger issue here.

Indeed and he's resigned. I doubt there's enough evidence to convict him of drug use, but given he's probably ruined his life by his behavour, I think the glee that the tabloids continue to have over this is probably enough of a punishment.

I think offering to pay for the cocaine could be aiding and abetting.

Except that this one has always put himself forward as a pillar of society type and when called for a sound bite on, e.g., Radio 4, he presents himself as such. I think that should be  labelled hypocrisy/

Is that what he said in the film ? "how much for the cocaine?"

Cheating on your partner does not put a person in a good light at all. Consorting with prostitutes/ rent boys is even worse as many of those people are not doing it of their own free will, but controlled by pimps

which doesn't answer the question I asked.

A person who can cheat on their partner is likely not to make a good MP, imo.

Sorry Floo that is really glib, judgemental nonsense. Plenty of people have affairs and manage to do their jobs perfectly well - I see no reason to single out politicians.
