For those affected by the policy, the biggest worry to me is the lack of clarity or evidence of planning in it. I don't see how it ties in to the previous flagship of free schools, nor how the overall school system is meant to work. That said there is an ongoing issue with the comprehensive system and social mobility.
Given that viewed in Scotland have their own programme on this, I was interested to see John Swinney talking about somehow devolving power to schools bypassing local authorities. This is only a suggestion as part of a review but I hope the review comes to some useful wide ranging conclusions on how to increase social mobility in Scotland as the 'achievement gap' as it is referred seems to be getting worse.
