Elect Hillary Clinton as our Next President!!

On December 19, the 538 members of the Electoral College will meet to choose our next President. By that time, it is expected that Hillary Clinton will have roughly two million more votes than Donald Trump.

The American people clearly chose Hillary Clinton to be our next President. The Electoral College should respect our wishes and our democracy by choosing her.

While it is highly, highly unlikely that this will happen, there is nothing unconstitutional about it. There are 21 states that have no laws binding their Electors to follow the popular vote of their state. Further, according to the National Archives, "no Elector has ever been prosecuted for failing to vote as pledged."

No matter how unlikely our victory in this fight is, we must oppose and resist Donald Trump at every turn. This starts with opposing the injustice of him taking office despite Hillary Clinton winning far more votes.

But how is different from Donald Trump's threats of restorative action if he failed to win the election? He claimed the election was rigged - it was, in his favour.

Both candidates based their campaign on the existing electoral system. Both knew which states they had to win. Clinton lost because she failed to inspire the voters in those states and address their concerns. This is all just sour grapes. Democracy won, however imperfect.

the system that everyone knew applied at the time of the election. Changing voting systems retrospectively is anti democratic

Just to note this also applies to any objections to the HoC members voting against Brexit, or the courts saying that they should have a vote. If it happens democracy wins based on our current system, however imperfect.

You appear to have forgotten that Trump spent some time before the election stating that the election was rigged in the Democrats' favour and that he would have the result overturned if Mrs Clinton won. I am merely pointing out that, even though Mrs Clinton won the popular vote, Trump is declared the winner. The election was rigged - but in his favour. Trump cannot therefore complain if the tactic he said he would against Mrs Clinton is used against him.

But that applies reversed, lots of people on the Clinton side were desperately upset when Trump didn't agree that he would accept the result because obviously they would. So while Trump might not be in a strong position to complain, doesn't make it any less hypocritical from the Clinton side.

Wow! All this is so much like the Brexit aftermath. Almost deja vu!

It is indeed.  Sour grapes.  I don't blame anyone at all for feeling that way, I did after Brexit, but we have to accept the electoral system or try to change it before next time.  Can't see there is much that can be done presently.

except the constitution in the UK has to be accepted by Brexiteers as well, and the attacks on the judicial decision are precisely not doing that. Parliamentary sovereignty on this applies.
