I was listening to this on R4 News. You know how it says they will be countering the cyber security threat? Well I don't think the publicists have thought it through: In the war, Bletchley Park was the cyber threat.

I don't see anything particularly 'creepy' about having a competent security service.  The worrying thing would be if there were not facilities like this.

The greatest real, immediate threat that we face now is not nuclear war but the increasing apparent interest by countries such as Russia and North Korea in the information networks of countries in the western bloc. A piece of appropriately inserted mischievous code could bring nations to their knees.

We need to ensure that there are well-trained technicians able to counter such threats.

I suggested to one of my grandsons (13) a few weeks ago that he would should train as a code breaker. Since a young age he has been very knowledgeable where computers are concerned, and has helped his ancient old granny out when she has had a problem with hers!

He (allegedly) gained access to a number of secure US military and intelligence systems, no mean feat and the US wouldn't be so keen on getting their hands on him if it was a trivial breach.

Sounds like exactly the kind of guy we need to be utilising for cyber warfare.
