Private Members Bill - Istanbul Convention
« on: December 14, 2016, 03:06:33 PM »

This is due to be debated in HoC this Friday 16th December. I expect like the other SNP Private Members Bills it will be talked out by the govt, and as with John Nicolson's Turing Bill, and Mhairi Black's Benefit Sanctions Bill, the Labour party will turn up in too few numbers to ensure that the question be put, despite agreeing with all 3 bills, because of tribalism.

Whilst I have no problem with the Convention, do we not already have laws that cover all the various issues?  Wasn't there an amendment to the stalking bill only a few days ago?  Perhaps we ought to write tour various MPs, especially those of us living in Tory constituencies, asking that the MPs attend the debate.  Who's the Minister responsible for this area of life, by the way?
Are your, or your friends'/relatives', garages, lofts or sheds full of unused DIY gear, sewing/knitting machines or fabric and haberdashery stuff?

Kudos to SNP on this issue!
The Labour Party is a disgrace on this.
Playing petty politics and happy to jeopardise people's lives.

Looks like there has been an outbreak of common sense by enough Labour MPs, no thanks to JC, and indeed the Govt has seen sense. Good for Eilidh

Philip Davies, who spoke for 77 minutes in an attempt to filibastard the bill, is on the Women and Equalities Committee (which he doesn't think should exist)

But then given he doesn't want kids trained in first aid amongst other things.

I think it should be pointed out that the Istanbul Convention relates to domestic violence against anybody. It does not just relate to domestic violence against women, despite what Philip Davies, and for that matter some feminist journalists, have tried to claim.
