That makes me very sad. For a long time he was a regular part of my journey to work.

Makes me feel a little bit sad too, jeremy, but the Rabbi accomplished so much in his journey for which he'll be remembered and I feel happy about that.

Thanks for the link, NS, lovely obit from the BBC.

I read some of his work years ago, at a time when I was consuming all sorts of books on spirituality and, from memory, particularly liked "Blue Heaven" and "Chicken Soup for the Soul". His gentle, homespun-style faith appealed to me as a contrast to some of the stuff I read and a lot of it has stayed with me.

The Quakers had a profound influence on him when he was a young man which is something I understand very well.  He had a far from easy life.

Also used to hear him on Radio 4 and saw him occasionally on TV.

RIP Rabbi Blue, thank you for sharing so much kindness, humour and wisdom with readers and listeners. It was such a pleasure.

I still unconsciously measure sadness by an element of three score and ten. You get past that, my inner feelings nod that time passes and gives thanks for you. A friend elsewhere was posting that this was one of the first kind religious voices they heard, and it allowed them to think that religious people might be kind and wise. That's a pretty good epitaph.

Farewell Lionel!

Sad. I always sensed that he was a kind and good man. Wise too, but probably not as wise as that other media Rabbi Hugo Gryn (who died quite a while ago).

Wisdom is a funny old thing. I think it is changed by kindness, goodness and necessity.

Saddened to hear this news.  I was always touched, and often amused, by his pieces, wherever I heard them.

A lovely human being, it'd be surprising if he wasn't much missed, a good man.

A lovely man who made religion livable - a man totally without any need for any kind of bullshit!

He is also one of only three "celebrities" that I can claim to have met personally - he officiated at a friends wedding many years ago.
The Holy Bible, probably the most diabolical work of fiction ever to be visited upon mankind.

An it harm none, do what you will; an it harm some, do what you must!
