Yes, I was a bit baffled by this, as I can't see that wonderful nature films make us feel complacent.  Well, they might, but he hasn't shown this.   I think Attenborough is careful not to lace his films with constant warnings about extinctions, as this would make them very different.
They were the footprints of a gigantic hound!

The author of this piece seems to assume that every human being on the globe sees programmes like this; whereas I doubt whether more than a quarter of them do - perhaps far less.   Unfortunately, one can't even assume that the majority of the Western population have seen many of them - to my shame, I have only seen a couple of part-episodes of the named show, let alone that much of many of the other Attenborough programmes - I'm usually busy doing other things, even to watch any that get recorded.

Though I don't have documentary evidence to this effect, I suspect that a lot of the destruction of wildlife is carried out by those for whom economic survival comes ahead of wildlife survival - possibly resulting from the tyranny of Western-imposed free trade practices that always benefit the West far more than developing nations.
Are your, or your friends'/relatives', garages, lofts or sheds full of unused DIY gear, sewing/knitting machines or fabric and haberdashery stuff?

Sadly, there are enough reports from the UN and various other intergovernmental organisations to support the view, Walter.  From your post, I assume you share President-elect Trump's views on things like the environment, free- and fair trade, etc.
