Ms Dick is IMHO quite obviously a bosses favourite who has been groomed for the top job for years. The slaughter of Mr De Menezes is being seen as an unfortunate temporary setback on her path.

If one of my workplace subordinates makes a big mistake, I am the one who takes the responsibility. If I ever made a big mistake, my boss takes the responsibility. You takes the extra shilling, you takes the extra shick that comes with it. But obviously not Ms Dick.

They seem to be putting a big distance between her and the killing, i.e. that she was merely in operational control, and the killing was because of unfortunate errors, and so on.  But yes, in many businesses, this would mean an exit, wouldn't it?

People make mistakes, but this does not necessarily mean they are going to make another one. If it was caused due to an innate inability then they should leave, but in most cases the chances of making a similar mistake again are surely likely to be lower?

Pretty much in agreement with Udayana. The tragedy of the killing of de Menezes looks atypical here. In some ways the ability of the Met to look at a whole career is heartening.
