On the contrary I've thought it through quite deeply.

No I do not believe the faith of the Aborigines resembles the message from God to his 'chosen'. Nor do I believe that their faith is less valid,to them, for that. A pity early Christian missionaries did not have more respect for the beliefs of indigenous populations. Apart from religion, so much ancient culture was suppressed and obliterated all over the world. You don't have to be religious yourself to see that. actions performed in the name of Christianity has a lot to answer for in my opinion.

Good post, I agree.

Why do you say that?

you can take that to the bank  :o

For what? Their beliefs sustained them for long enough before the CHristians came and I've not heard they tried to force them on the invaders. It's not our business to mess with the faith of others or ridicule it,it has to grow, change and/or wither in its own way.

When I made Battenberg the colours ran.

Disagree about not our business to less with the faith of others. Ifbsomeone wants to mistreat women or gays because of their faith,  it is exactly my business. As to ridicule, why is faith an excuse to evade ridicule?

What evidence is available that would satisfy someone who does not believe? I've not heard any and wouldn't bother trying to convince someone else.

(john: "I think people have given up trying to have meaningful conversations with "theists" about anything, they just put their fingers in their ears and shout loudly "la la la"."
Quite.)

Doestn't stop religions &ethics being interesting to talk and learn about.

Maybe God did give message to aboriginal Australians, they have their own beliefs and spirituality.

Hi Robinson,

There s the things like 'just' and 'unjust' and if something falls short of Gods standards then others will suffer because the world is made that way.
But   in all God being real for the believers is not the same for the atheists.
We cannot live together as equals because atheism makes it impossible.  I once had someone try to ridicule me and even speak at me in real life as if he was talking as God. What I noted was the real anxiety and the fact they were oblivious to their own disdain for God reflecting the attack onto myself.  As human beings atheist reflect their own disdain about God onto anyone who believes in him, Whilst believers have to turn the other cheek and watch in silence as the atheist become all the things they accuse God of being.

We who are believers accept the world is a fallen world made so by Satan. They sometimes refuse to learn what the importance of God existing real means.

Depends what you want to ridicule. I think it bad form to belittle the eucharist, at least in public, but will ridicule the way that normal human beings get divided into sheep and goats as to who can receive it.

I shall ridicule whomever I wish (as long as I'm out of arms length)
and as far as Battenberg production is concerned , the running of the colour is secondary to the taste , to a blind person .

That is an interesting point. I think I'll ask a question about it....not in general discussion though.

I think it bad form to ridicule ideas in private that you wouldn't in public unless you might get beaten up, killed for it. But then that's part of the problem, and not just religion. When ideas are protected from ridicule, they become tyrants.

The cake was nice Walter, all sticky and yum.
Tonight I'm feeling hungry and lazy after being away, ordered a Chinese for us, can't wait for its arrival.

I would challenge anyone who uses their religion as an excuse to oppress others, otherwise I respect the fact that we are free to choose to believe or not believe. Iappreciate the diversity of this world & hope I'm sensitive to others, wouldn't take the micky if they were unable to reciprocate.

No, I understand that the Eucharist isn't an idea to Christians, it is a sacrament representing an act of love and sacrifice. I do challenge the idea that the sacrifice was ever necessary and the associated ideas that come with that, but not the act itself. Belittling the most revered of the sacraments strikes me as being counterproductive as well as disrespectful. If you want to be heard, don't make your audience mad by shitting on what they love first.

And if you want to challenge authority, don't bow your head to it. Yes, it depends on your audience but why dishonestly misrepresent what you think?  Should I not ridicule FGM, how about witch burning, I mean people thought that was really important?

You think my atheism makes it impossible for us to live together? Cough! In like a purely platonic not actually living together, sort of thing, you know more like saying hello to each other, cough!
