On an aside of scary rowdy people and pubs, I once found myself with some time to kill in Halifax. My thought turned to a little session and so I tried to find a pub. Now I am not fussy, nor do I intimidate easily: I am after all a 6'5' Glaswegian but all of the pubs were a bit hooky to my eye, so I ended up at the thrash metal bar with Napalm Death on the jukebox and had a marvellous time. Often the scary rowdy are the safest.
GOOD NEWS daughter is safe
IM very familiar with Halifax, used to live not far away.
and just as you say, when my boy lived in Newcastle we were on the town from lunchtime one day and being a bit of an old chap I couldn't make the whole journey home in one go on the bus without pissing my pants . SO my lad said there's a rough pub at the next stop if its that bad , you can go in there
We walked in and the place went silent. But that was not for us , we had walked into a wake, and someone was about to sing
The people were all young but dressed in a way that didn't inspire a relaxed atmosphere, tattoos ,shaved heads, chains ,smoking dope.
by the time id come out the toilet my lad had two pints on the bar . 5 pints later we had one of the best nights wed ever had with our new best friends.
btw my boy is 6 foot 4 with hands like shovels which does give me a level of confidence
