http://democratizeus.com/2017/04/04/evangelical-leader-says-those-who-oppose-trump-could-be-punished-with-gay-child/

There are times I find their blind faith in a leader, no matter how imperfect he is, and excuse him anything, terrifying.

It's frightening to think there may be those in the USA with power who think in this way.

Who knows what sort of behaviour such people are capable of supporting?

To me, the Christians in that link fit the term ..... evil!

Discernment obviously isn't one of their talents, is my thought on it. ( although they " think " it is)

Most atheists have more discernment than those two  :o

Religion and ethics.

These Christians seem to lack ethics.

I have met some very scary Christians in my time, in real life and on-line. The Bible literalists who believe everything in the Bible is the word of god, and won't question their faith, can be very unpleasant indeed.

Copeland is a vile man. On reading your post Rose I vaguely remembered his name and looked him up. There's a 'Ministries' link and others but here is the wiki entry for him:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenneth_Copeland

I clicked on your link a second time Rose and was taken to another Copeland article, one without quotes, but copied this from the original:
Evangelist Kenneth Copeland echoes Mary Colbert’s warning, and fleshes out how God will mete out punishment for not supporting President Trump, when he appeared on the Trinity Broadcasting Network last year:

“If Christians don’t support Trump, they are risking the wrath of God. Trump has been chosen by God, and by rejecting him, they are rejecting God. They could be punished with barrenness, poverty, or even having a gay child.”

What's wrong with having a gay child especially in this era where gay people can be open &live fulfilled  lives????Like yourself I'd prefer a gay child to KC! In any case God doesn't punish people for how they vote, ridiculous idea.

In this country a statement like that would be roundly conemned, maybe even considered 'hate' & illegal.

Yeuch.
(Thanks for posting this, good thread)

They also seem to lack Christ.
"for, as long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any conditions be brought under English rule. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself."

Trump likes hate speech. That is the truly frightening thing here.

Quite a common thing over the pond. Daresay there are some here too but we don't hear of them so can't be many.
He used to be involved in the ministry of Oral Roberts.

Agree with Anchor that some Christians lack Christ! Well put.

How stupid to call Trump a man of God as if he's something specil other than politician.

That piece of scum Oral Roberts took my wealthy elderly Great Aunt for a considerable amount of dosh in the 60s, before her family realised what was going on! >:(

It is so very sad some people are taken in by people like them and don't question their motives, or look at the lavish lifestyles they  have.

I think you're right there. Nothing wrong with them having a decent income & lifestyle which is different to extravagance, private jets and all that.

But a decent lifestyle shouldn't come at the expense of conning the gullible, which is what most of these high profile American evangelists do.

Thanks floo.
Thinking of 'scary Christians', a few years ago I belonged to a Christian group that was involved in a type of caring for certain sections, though itdid not proselytise.  It was inter-denominational.

One of the members, a woman, tried to set up a group for praying women at her house. Sounded good, we all took something to eat - "care and share", etc.

I went with my spicy chicken bits and was the only person who turned up!

She unplugged her 'phone (landline) - in front of me to show me - saying it was important to do that so we wouldn't be interrupted.

I was terrified! Felt completely trapped.

What an unpleasant experience. :o

Years ago one our daughters had a school friend whose father was not only scary, but a HUGE embarrassment to his poor girl. Every Saturday he would stand in the main street of the town proclaiming, 'THE END IS NIGH', as well as threatening people with hellfire if they didn't get saved. Even members of the congregation of the church he attended gave him a very wide berth, if they saw him when shopping!

My daughter lost touch with her, but if I remember rightly I think the girl did leave home as soon as she left school.

Id rather have a gay son, than one that resembled Kenneth Copeland.

 :o

I know what you mean but please don't make it sound like the 'lesser of 2 evils' !!!!

Gay or straight, if our children are happy in the skin they are in, surely that is what should be important to us as parents.
