May be it will work, may be what seems to be an even handed warning from China might work. And I think we have to be careful here on the Blane being Trump and America. The inability to do anything to make Nth Korea move from a path of lunatic pariahhood is central here.

I think the real issue here is who allowed N. Korea to develop nukes and why hasn't it been dealt with earlier. It is only now that people are thinking this may be a problem, now that it is pretty much too late.

Totally agree that this should have been dealt with before. But in the here and now we have a president who can't keep his hands to himself and on current evidence can't keep his bombs to himself either. That is a real danger imo.

If it is possible  then I think all the missile sites in North Korea should be hit before they can react.
That way they cannot launch a nuclear missile.
Then the whole of their air force should also be destroyed.

It seems that in order for the rest of the world to take action against North Korea,  that country would first have to attack another country or do something that resulted in people being killed; unfortunately that is the only way military action is justifiable. N. Korea doesn't appear to want to use its weapons except in defence, so I can't see anything significant being done.

How is demonstrating that Japan is within range of supposedly nuclear-armed ballistic missiles defensive?

Japan, for (what I would have thought are) obvious reasons maintains a Self Defence Force that is only one fifth the size of North Korea's army. Japan has no long range bombers or attack-based aircraft carriers. Japan's constitution renounces the right to initiate attack in international confrontation.

Under these circumstances North Korea's behaviour can only be considered aggressive.

You could argue that it's fairly rational.   The US keeps threatening them, and they know that other countries have a nuclear deterrence.   In other words, if you bomb  us, we will retaliate.   Of course, it could all go wrong, esp. in relation to S. Korea.

Or, North Korea holds off and agrees to disarm. Let's hope it's the latter.

China needs to take drastic action over NK and draw a line in the sand, before Trump does something really crazy!

I don't think there are only two options.  Another one is that N. K. keeps testing bombs, and nobody does anything, well, barring sanctions.   Everybody is worried about the retaliation, not against the US, but S. Korea, as no doubt N.K. has a ton of weaponry aimed across the border.   The first bomb to fall on N.K. may provoke this, all along the border and aimed at Seoul also.   

This has unforeseen consequences - another Korean war, China intervening, because they don't want US bases against their frontier, millions  of refugees, and so on.   It's true that Trump is crazy, but his generals will be warning him.

All it takes is another one of those 'tests' to go haywire, and a missile - even with a dummy warhead - to land on Japanese territory.
And apparently NK are planning a few more launches in the next few days....

Yes, there could be a war by accident.  But apart from that, I think the stand-off will continue.  Nobody dares to risk attacking first, as the consequences could be so awful, e.g. another Korean war, with millions of refugees.   NK actually doesn't need a nuclear deterrent,  as it already has a conventional one.   I guess winding up Trump is fun.
