Tomorrow's World

Not exactly a return of the old programme - but nevertheless it looks like an interesting take on engaging the viewing public with a number of scientific/health/ecological issues.
Before we work on Artificial Intelligence shouldn't we address the problem of natural stupidity.

Looks like there's some interesting stuff but it seems to be reliant on existing programmes being rebranded as part of a "Tomorrow's World strand" to beef up the content.

Yes...I think Science should be re-positioned as a useful tool for a better life tomorrow rather than as a alternative to religion and philosophy..that it has hitherto been projected as by many people.

With you there.
The British Humanist Association though insists that science is something one can build a life around. The danger there is that one reflects less critically on bad uses of science vis resource depletion, weaponry, pollution and cybercrime and terrorism.

Are there people that think like that ? Don't think I've ever encountered such.

Could you provide a link to the BHA position which you think 'insists that science is something one can build a life around.'?

I don't know anyone who thinks that way. Is this just you projecting what you think atheists believe ?
I have an infinite number of belief systems cos there are an infinite number of things I don't believe in.

I respect your right to believe whatever you want. I don't have to respect your beliefs.

It trusts to it for finding out how the cosmos works, not how to live life. Let's note that you were agreeing with Sriram that there are those who place science in place of religion and philosophy. Hence the various references to philosophy in your link show you were wrong.

key phrase :

"trusted to the scientific method, evidence, and reason to discover truths about the universe"

ie science is a tool for knowledge discovery

".. and have placed human welfare and happiness at the centre of their ethical decision making",

ie a philosophical attitude to life specific to humanism, not science.
