Penguins,mines and more unintended consequences

Getting rid of mines as per the Ottawa Convention is a good thing, surely? Not necessarily if you are a penguin.

I was going to start a thread on this. Difficult to think of a story that illustrates the folly of humanity better.

it's odd sometimes there are little serendipitous themes that arise in stuff that gets posted and this, the blasphemy thread and the two other threads I started this morning all seem to run together. We look for solutions and are not able to deal with two or more solutions to problems pointing in different directions.

We don't seem to be good at understanding that our well-meaning actions can cause more problems. We see something and have to react, when maybe the best course of action would be to leave well alone.
