Fallacy of modernity.
Just a few decades ago secular humanists seemed to think a welfare state was a good thing. Now there are more SHers and it seems the sort of thing we can't afford.
The nonsense of failing to understand the difference between association and causation.
Can you provide evidence please that an increase in secular humanism is the
cause of an increased view that we can't afford welfare (indeed if that is actually the case).
I would have thought that concern about the affordability of welfare is due to increasingly elderly population and therefore an increased need coupled with a right wing government in power for the past 7 years driving an agenda of austerity and shrinking government (and therefore welfare spending).
