Been looking in the mirror again Floo?

The person who gets orgasmic by posting on forums where people hold views radically different to yours for some sort of sick amusement, is complaining about a misrepresentation of what other posters believe?

You're like a dog chasing its tail!

All very well & obviously exasperating for you but fact is floo seems to have been severely traumatised by such talk. When things are instilled in childhood they are difficult to expunge & will keep popping up. Does it hurt us? I wouldn't have thought so.

I think 'severely traumatised' is an exaggeration. ::) It spoilt my childhood, but once I lost my faith I got over it. However, I will always challenged people who come out with that garbage, as there is no evidence to support it, and it can scare people.

Floo I really do hope you eventually make it to heaven.  I would love to have the privilege of being able to wake you up every morning to remind you that, after all was said and done, I was right and you were Wrong!

Although on second thoughts that would probably constitute sheer hell for you so perhaps I should not hope too fervently.  :)

Could you please provide a detailed description of the heaven you  believe in? Where is it?  etc etc :)

Religion doesn't seem to get much madder than this hell idea, an absolutely barmy idea, useful to those in power in the days before many couldn't even write.

Neither is telling the truth these days. Much better to evangelise where the hearers can be made to feel comfortable in their lifestyles, isn't it.
I haven't enough faith to be an atheist.

The TRUTH? How do you KNOW burning in hell is the 'truth'? Your sort of evangelising is only making you look very silly! ::) A lot of Christians don't see it your way.

Does it make you warm inside to call your opinion, The Truth? Do you get a bit excited at the pit of your stomach? Does it make your sword stand up?

People go to sleep in this heaven of yours, then, do they?

Did Sword actually say anything about literally roasting in Hell (or about having a say in who does)?

Sorry, did'nt mean anything neg by what I said. Day off today instead of Friday, giving in to tiredness so can't engage brain properly.
(i felt quite refreshed when I got back from Devon last weekend! Going for a kip next.)

Going back to thread,I feel sure there aren't many Christians who take the Biblical story of Hell as a place of torment literally. That would be so unfair whatever anyone has done. Thinking about people who have committed heinous crimes and spent most of their lives in prison - they would have done their 'hell' in the here and now in every way, incarcerated, vilified, beaten up, you name it. They paid their debt, Why would they be punished further? I can't see that.

Ah now I understand something that was said to me before, while back, perplexed me at the time - but no matter now (ijust hope they were nice  :D).

"As for hellfire believers, sadly there are a good many who still believe in that nonsense, especially the extreme evangelicals. As for whether there are any deserving of a hellish BBQ, well I can think of a few, but for all eternity is way over the top."

Exactly & would be awful for us to imagine it even if we were horrified by  them in life. Not at all healthy. It would cast a BIG cloud over my life if I believed that but never have. Thank goodness.

If you do not believe in any kind of after-life hell, how do you rationalise believing in some after-life heaven/something similar? That is, if you do, of course.

I have said it many times but never got a proper answer, how if is fair and just for an evil person like a serial killer to hypothetically get 'saved' on their deathbed and go straight to heaven, yet a good, decent unbeliever goes to hell? Of course there are those who believe, 'once saved, you are always saved' whatever naughty things you do after you have taken out that insurance policy. So technically having done the 'saved' mantra as a kid, I could then spend of my life as the worst sort of criminal and still end up in heaven. Oh hang on a minute, when I have put that question to the 'once said, always saved' lot, I am told I wasn't 'saved' in the first place, how convenient. ::)

I know this topic has been done before, but I thought I would start a new thread on it. I post on an American religious debate forum where a number of the posters seem to get orgasmic at the idea of unbelievers burning for ever in the fires of hell. Actually they are so crazy they are amusing. :D

When I was a teenager (17) I remember a guest preacher at the Pentecostal church my family attended going on about the tortures of hell with great gusto. He was obviously getting off on the idea of people burning for all eternity. The pulpit hid the lower part of his body, but his right hand appeared to be moving up and down, it was disgusting! :o  I walked out taking my younger sisters with me, I was followed by most of the congregation. My parents, who hadn't attended the service, agreed I had done the right thing!

How many posters reckon hell is a place where all the unsaved roast forever?

Don't know anyone who came back from hell to tell  anyone about tortures of hell.
Christ never mentioned any when he returned. Want to enlighten us?
We know we have to work together to abolish war and terrorism to create a compassionate  world in which Justice and peace prevail. Love ;D   Einstein

No one has ever come back to life after they are well and truly dead, including Jesus, imo.
