Refuweegees
« on: July 26, 2017, 05:52:50 PM »
Good to see my MP talking about the great work done by the Refuweegee charity today and trying to get more consistent govt support of this and similar charities (and it's a great name)

Cans of Super Tennent's and deepfried Mars bars all round then.

More like a bottle of Buckie and deep fried pizza. Deep fried Mars bars are mainly an Edinburgh thing for the tourists, and that would have sauce on it and that's just wrong.

After all Buckie and a bit of bread. Sort of stuff Jesus liked.

You come to Glasgow as the title says you are welcome. I would say I would happily buy you both but then you would be agreeing to roughly 2 years off your life. More if we add in the tablet and Tunnocks

Tunnocks? Never touched em since they changed the flag on the teacakes. Besides, I'm a Snowball man myself. That and Irn Bru, naturally.

I remember watching giant dancing teacakes on tv one afternoon. I was very worried for a while but then I discovered that other people could see them too.

just over three years ago. It was a great fun opening ceremony from the teacakes to the kiss, from the torch that wouldn't open to this

Hamish Henderson would have loved that rendition....and, hey, it fits right back on topic! Some lines; "Sae come a ye at hame wi freedom Never heed what the hoodies croak for doom; In your hoos, a the bairns o Adam will find breid, barley bree an painted room..." THAT should be our anthem, imho.

Too hard to sing. I go for Shang-A-Lang but absolutely with you on the message.

Too hard to sing? Nah! Here's a great version, from a superb Scots folk singer - in one of the most stunning symbols of man's victory over his situation. What's difficult about it? https://vimeo.com/73406037

Ah ... acid flashbacks are a well known thing, you know.

To sing for a good singer, not that much. For a large number who sing flat and can't harmonise, tons.

And as we are swapping versions - Luke Kelly

I've heard Luke's version - I have it on tape somewhere (along with his scurrilous version of "Coronation Coranach/Scottish Breakaway, best known from Alistair Macdonald or Alex Campbell) The fantastic Dick Gaughan says Pete Seger did a great version as well - now THAT i'd like to hear. Anyway for those who want an interpretation of the Scots which might be a bit difficult, here's Gaughan's own notes: http://www.dickgaughan.co.uk/songs/texts/freecaye.html

And as Anchorman notes, this remains on topic because the lyrics are the point.
