Saturday is Strictly Night
« on: September 30, 2017, 06:12:41 PM »
As I was on holiday last Saturday I watched last week's this afternoon.
I know there are other fans on here.
Looking forward to tonight's show, in approximately thirty-five minutes.

Good show. I do not like the new judge's judging.

I loved last nilght's show, better than the one before tho' felt perhaps I was not in the mood too much for the previous one which was why I was less excited.  Realy like Shirley, the new 'Head Judge'.   Hope no-one is comparing her to lovely Len Goodman, they are different.

So much good stuff!   Alexandra Burke was particularly amazing but many of them were excellent.

I know who is out but won't post spoiler.

Always feel sorry for first one out, wish they could do it differently, get rid of four first time around for example but they'd have to make adjustments to the show.

Well, I continue to disagree about the new judge. When she is talking to the contestants, she is not even sitting up straight! She's sort of all curled up. She does not have an air of authority.

My husband and I have no interest in 'Strictly' it is mega boring, it is such a pity it infests BBC1 on a Saturday night, for so long!

Possibly not the thread for you.

I watch it vicariously through Gogglebox.

Actually Gogglebox is really useful for following programmes that you want to know about but can't be bothered to watch. See also Line of Duty and Dr Foster.

Definitely not. I have never danced or been to a dance in my life, or ever wanted to, neither has my husband. No doubt that just ratchets up my weirdness some more. ;D

Floo, this definitely is not the thread for you!
It is for 'Strictly' fans.   'Strictly' is a great show for men, women and children everywhere!   Great fun, beautiful and exciting, sad at times.   The best Saturday night telly I've known.   If I'm out on a Sat night I watch it late or the next day, not to be missed - but each to their own.
(I know who is the first out.)

I eemember floo saying previously that she didn't like music so it follows she wouldn't like SCD. Pointless her posting on this thread.
Most of us do and many have become interested because of SCD, all ages and sexes.  I love it!

Shirley is not Len but I was determined not to think about Len yesterday.  Give her time, she'll grow into the role I hope.

Len Goodman actually put me off watching the show ,with his cockney accent and speech impediment

He doesn't sound cockney;  though born in the East End he spent the bulk of his life on the edge of SE London and his accent sounds SE London.  It's not a particularly attractive accent.   I work in an area on the edge of Bromley where many older people speak like Len but less clear, the younger ones do likewise but with added inflections.   I must say I never noticed Len's speech impediment.

I really liked Len as Head Judge but I think Shirley Ballas is very nice, don't want to 'judge' her yet..  She looks like someone I know or have known and I can't work out whom which bugs me!   Her Merseyside accent is not very pronounced so no-one is likely to object to that.

When I was awake during the night I watched the beginning of last night's result show, which I'd missed.  I muted it so as not to disturb the old man. Seeing the professional dancers doing their group dance, bowling, was quite funny without sound!

Gutted for the lovely Chizzy but I thought the dance off would be between her and Brian and on the day, he was marginally better.  I hate the way one always has to go first, wish the producers would find some other way.

I also have no interest whatsoever in Strictly. This means that, when I see a thread about it, I don't normally comment.

I have made an exception here because, one of the most irritating things I find about Internet forums is the people who go on topic X for the sole reason of declaring they have no interest on topic X. Why? Why would you do that? Why not just read the threads that do interest you?

Loving it despite everything else going on.  Sat around the telly, eating, with my parents and in-laws on Saturday night (they have a standing engagement to watch Strictly and provide food in eachother's houses on alternate weeks).

I do think Ruth Langsford is lovely, she is on ITT right now.

Nice to see Erin Boag on 'Choreography Corner'.

Didn't vote on Saturday but my top celebs are Alexandra and Aston - but like them all and it's early days.

(It was right that Richard went but he was gracious and fun.  He had a great time.  I loved his 'elimination' dance to 'The time of my Life'.)

Marvin??? Are you talking about Aston? I am always slightly ambivalent about people who have earned a living out of dancing or singing and dancing on the programme, so just for the enthusiasm points to Susan Calman, who in her day job I find unfunny, but here delightful

Why did I say Marvin? Yes, meant Aston. I will alter.
You have a point but he hasn't done ballroom which is such a different discipline.

Special mention for Johnny, he was great as Indiana Jones.

I presumed Aston as Marvin was another member of JLS and has been on the programme supporting Aston. I get the different disciplines idea but there is a huge difference between those who are professionals on dance and those who have no clue about it.

Yes, Marvin and his wife, Rochelle, were on there supporting Aston and the girl from the Saturdays (Molly?). I liked JLS in their day.

I was reading about Aston, NS, and he has had dance training and experience, albeit not ballroom.  So I suppose he has an edge, particularly against people like Susan, Charlotte and Mollie.  Alexandra doesn't have dance training, she may have learned a bit in the musical she was in but no more than that (I'm an all time Alexandra Burke fan but that doesn't make me biased in Strictly).   What did surprise me was Debbie McGee's extensive dance training!   I had no idea about her, only thought of her with Paul Daniels.  No wonder she is so good, so poised.

I remember Tom Chambers who won SCD some years back;  he knew how to dance big time.

The judges have said that those with dance experience are marked more harshly and they give points to those who improve so we shall see.

I think Gemma is marvellous and Susan & Jonny are great.   Charlotte and Mollie are so sweet, I'd like to see them do well.

Last year, apart from Ed Balls who was great entertainment but also actually learned to dance, I loved Rob Rinder who started as a rank beginner and improved week on week.  He was so humble too, like a boy, really appreciated everything.

Loved Ruth and Anton's tango!  She really has improved.
I was pleased to see so much better from Molly(Mollie?), she looked great tonight, far more confident.

Gemma - wow.
Alexandra - can't find the words.
Love Jonny.

Great show.
