Live.Me

Despite much talk of social media and terrorism, the largest problems seem to me to be about individuals and the lack of understanding of the impact of what can be done on social media.

It is so important for parents to instruct their kids in the dangers of social media. I am eternally grateful my kids grew up in an age before everyone had computers and mobile phones. My husband and I would no doubt have made ourselves extremely unpopular by constantly checking our children's phones and computers. Although however vigilant a parent is, you can't be 100% sure your children are safe from internet perverts. :o

Do parents really know what the dangers of social media are?

some do
I heard the girl speak on the telly , she didn't sound too bright to me with the self confidence of a blade of grass in a hurricane .
The idea of turning it off would never occur to her !

If they don't they should educate themselves.

My kids have You Tube accounts, but not in their real names, and their ages are not given, and their avatars are not photographs. So far we have had no problems.

If anybody has problems it is Mrs Bennett,  she gets on religion & politics sites where she meets all sorts of weird people whom she argues with. To the best of my knowledge she is not a member of this forum.

Mmm - that's a nice idea - are they the technical equal of their kid and the rest of the net? I suspect you severely underestimate what you are asking.

And the idea of how to turn it off isn't going to be within the purview of most parents.

Don't you know? :o

I was extremely naïve about social media, when I got first got involved with the Internet in the late 90s. As I have mentioned a few times, I got taken for a ride by a 'Christian' woman from Florida, whom I met on a religious forum. I fell for her tale of woe and over a few months parted with close on £1000 in dollars.
When she realised no more would be forthcoming she fell out with me on-line. I later discovered other gullible, but well meaning people, had also been taken for a ride.  :o

I also had a stalker a while back, a former member of this forum, it wasn't pleasant, but fortunately their attentions have ceased.  :o

I am much wiser these days, I hope. My family don't approve of me posting on forums, but that is up to me, I certainly won't be parting with anymore dosh!

next week I'm off to Nigeria to collect my lottery winnings ,I've already given them my account details and paid a deposit to allow them to transfer but I thought id go in person . When I get there I just ask for Nigel. Apparently he'll be the only black fella at the airport so should be easy to find .
Do you think I should take sandwiches ?

Nigeria? but I thought that Nigerians were scammers, totally unlike those nubile Ukrainian aerobics instructors who want to come to England but cannot afford the air fare.

oh! I sent money to one of them last week , she looks lovely in her photo and is coming to help with my recovery . Although I cant do anything strenuous she said she could soon get on top of the situation and if anything else were to come up she has a special technique she can show me for a few extra quid  . She said she has a sister who for an extra consideration would be pleased to open up and show me the intricate method of the splits . I'm meeting them at the airport tomorrow so they can start as soon as possible with my stiffness
