I still watch the reruns on whatever tuppenyhalfpenny channel shows them. Great acting from the two main leads, although if memory serves in real life they weren't the best of pals, not that it ever showed.

Thanks for the laughs, Mr Bewes.

He wasn't bad in Resurrection of the Daleks (Fifth Doctor) either.

That came later - they had a falling out (or rather James Bolam did rather than Bewes - he's a notoriously prickly and difficult man) over something trivial and they never patched things up.

A shame. As Mr Bewes intimated in an interview it would have been nice to see them as two grumpy old men.

The bigger man of the two by far, there.

if I remember correctly , Rodney Bewes wasn't even a guest on James Bowlam's This Is Your Life , very sad .

I can't say I've seen much of him on TV though I recognise his face. Probably one of those actors who pop up all over the place in different things.  Everyone speaks well of him, seems he was a nice bloke.

Whatever happened to the likely lads provided a bit of social realistic fun amongst the Middle class sitcoms of the day. Play for Today with laughs. A true comedy classic.

I think there’s something rather lovely about the image conjured up by Matthew Pinsent’s tribute.
