Anybody else seen anyone with lights and other decorations up yet? I've just walked to and from the centre of where I live and spotted maybe ten or so trees and exterior lights.

That seems a bit early to me. The only thing I've done is buy presents which I've placed in boxes in spare room.

I always put up our minimalist decorations on December 1st and remove them on December 27th.

Loads near me. Shows people are desperate for some light in their lives I guess.

Looks like this Xmas thread has been derailed by comments about events on another thread - so I've removed the derail.

On topic - have yet to see any decs/lights on houses around here, although the supermarkets are OTT already.

Our town Xmas lights were switched on on Saturday.
Haven't seen any other lights, although we do still have some tinsel on a windowsill from two years ago.

I have a dead Christmas tree in a pot in the back garden. I kept it going for a while, then it died quickly.  It's quite an eye sore.  After the Christmas period I'll put it out for collection with this years (unless I decide to try and keep the new one going).

Seeing this thread I decided to check my own road of 114 houses - as at 23.32 27.11.2017 - 19 houses have their entire frontages (except the access to the front doors) completely covered with strips of lights in a cascade effect that are, for the most part, left on 24/7.

What the pilots trying to land on Heathrow 28R must think is beyond me.

At what age do you think you should enlighten your kids about Santa, or should you let them work it out for themselves?

Our eldest girl was three when she announced that Santa couldn't possibly visit all the children in one night and would need a lot of help. We explained that was what Mums and Dads were for. ;D My parents had it easy with me, I was terrified of Santa having seen one in a very scary mask when I was about 18 months old. I begged my parents to bring my stocking up to my room and not let Santa do it.

We put the external lights up last weekend as we had the time.

We will turn them on in December.

It was a huge relief when the santa thing ended for us. One of my daughters got so scared of the thought of seeing him that she used to vomit all through Xmas Eve night, but also got distressed at the thought that he didn't exist. I ended up lying to my kid, something that I hated.

Just another aspect of the bollocks that is Christmas. Thankfully we don't need to bother with the fakery any more.

There is a bungalow in the next road to ours, which has the whole garden and front of the property covered in Christmas lights, it is OTT and then some. ::) I am so glad I can't see it from where we live. Fortunately the people in our road who go in for external lights have them tastefully displayed.

I have white lights up all year round, indoor and out. I prefer it to putting them up for something that I has no meaning for me personally. It makes ignoring Xmas easier as well, which is a bonus.

Didn't go in for pretending Santa Claus was real but explained it was a story that could be fun - also that Santa traditionally wore green!  That was how I understood it when I was a kid, I didn't believe anyone came into my room at night with parcels, but my parents did that quietly. I can't stand people telling all sorts of tales to their kids and getting upset when they no longer believe them. I've even heard people tell kids that they leave a mince pie and drink out for Father Christmas on the kitchen table. Children are not stupid.  Like floo and Rhiannon's daughters, it could be quite scarey.
