Such is the way with forums - people do drift away sometimes, and sometimes permanently. On small and close-knit forums though this is always going to lead to concern as to welfare. Facebook set up the legacy contact scheme for this reason but I doubt it's feasible on forums.

We did suggest something to try and cover this at one stage but the problem is that it involves some giving up of personal info. Though people could nominate friends, relatives to get in touch via the email. One of the most touching posts we had was Gonnagle's post in reply to the news from elevenses's daughter of his death.

It has been one of those 'this page can't be displayed' days, and I have only just managed to see  this site. I do of course agree with other comments above.
This forum does feel like  a group of friends, doesn't it?

Yes I too miss Prof W. And as Shaker has kindly reminded me Pukon the Treen as well. There was another poster I liked that I think of as Wildwood but that was not his name - just the closest I can get to it. He posted on the Beeb and NGL but never here. Also miss T8-eh-T8. Unless he's here under another guise. Also Betty.

NS must have been reading my mind when he brought up this topic. I didn't sleep well last night, I lay awake thinking about the absent posters, like Gonnagle, who have played a big part in shaping this forum after the Beeb shut up shop.

Turning up the nerd to 11, the best Xmas present I ever got was in my teens - a massive Collins dictionary which was also a sort of semi-encyclopedia as well. A huge and heavy hardbacked book which I can't part with even though I read/used it to pieces (literally) many a long year ago and some of the encyclopedic information is out of date.

Being a tom boy I was pleased with the trainset my father gave me when I was four, however he only allowed me to play with it when he was able to play with it too, I suspect he wasn't given one as a kid!
