Someone, who reckoned they were a Christian exorcist, took it upon themselves to try to rid our previous property of 'demons'. My husband and I thought it was hilarious, needless to say it didn't make the slightest bit of difference to the weird activity, which took place there.

CofE do exorcisms too. There was a drama series on telly a while back, based on a book, called 'Midwinter of the Spirit'. Anna Maxwell Martin starred & I read the book. Most weird, can't say I enjoyed either much but years before, Martin Shaw starred in a series called 'Apparitions' which I thought was really good, suspending reality for a bit of course because I don't actually believe in possession.

From what I've read exorcisms are low key events & only carried out when all else (mental illness) is excluded. Nothing like dramatisations. It's possible someone could feel better afterwards I suppose, if they were deeply troubled and everything else has failed.

And it could make them feel worse and it validates those exorcism that end in death. How do you rule out mental illness?

I don’t have a problem with ‘house clearances’. I can see why it might bring some people peace of mind. It’s the casting out of demons that’s scary.

The book and television drama I mentioned earlier - 'Midwinteer of the Spirit' - was about a woman vicar who had done a deliverance ministry course, she also had a more senior exorcist as her mentor. The book gave details of her training but I can't remember now what it consisted of. To me it wasn't very entertaining so I didn't take it all in. I do wonder what those priests are going to learn & how they assess people.

'True Horror' on Channel 4 tonight at 10. Dramatised scenes & interviews of a family's experiences in a Welsh farmhouse from 1989-95, very unpleasant things happen, includes 'exorcism'. I will not be watching it but mention because of this thread - will be interested to hear reports from anyone who does watch the programme.

Yes, I get that. The point is you wouldn't be able to screw up the TV. But I get that even with that it is too much of a risk. Don't suppose you could tempt your husband into trying to do it?

Can't you get All4 catch up on your laptop LR? I have difficult accessing on the TV but can always get it on laptop.

If you've got a H D M I socket on your T V Rob, treat yourself to a Fire Stick from Amazon, bit fiddly to start with but when you've got it going it works a treat, it's about £35 to £40 well worth the money in my opinion, you should be able to get all T V channels in H D as well, you just download the appropriate apps, mostly free.

Thanks ippy. Thinking of buying whole new TV system, we've had this one for a good few years.

I've started watching 'True Horror' episode 1, didn't realise it was a series. Slow moving so far, weird but there's bound to be some explanation for all that happened - tho' the review said it ends with a horrifying climax. It's set in the rural Wales, Brecon Beacons.

There is no reason to think that such a series will provide an explanation. The very premise is that it doesn't.
