Brigitte Gabriel's answer to muslim woman....
« on: April 23, 2018, 08:02:44 AM »
Hi everyone,

Here is a video of Brigitte Gabriel's answer to a question asked by a Muslim woman. Quite interesting!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ry3NzkAOo3s

Do you agree with her?

Cheers.

Sriram

PS: Frankly, I have no idea who Brigitte Gabriel is btw.

It's as easy to demolish that lot as it is Roman Catholics, but, Catholics don't run gays off of the roofs of buildings stoning people for petty reasons ect, etc.

You'll get a much broader perspective if you listen to some of Douglas Murrays, words via YouTube.

You said that before ippy and I did, diligently.
I know no Muslims who would run a gay person off the roof. I've read about them.
There are gay & bisexual Muslims you know.

Yes you're right Rob, I did, maybe you've found a different Douglas Murray.

I'm not a right wing devotee and I can see why it might go against the grain to take on board Duggies viewpoints, but when I have seen his clashes in debate and various times he's been interviewd, I have found very little to dissagree with his views on or about Islam, his latest book is very telling about the threat Islam is to the western world.

It's very hard for me to see there is very much wrong with his rather unpleasant forcasts, you think something different, we're unlikely to agree over all, O K well thats life.

Yes it is. I've seen Douglas Murray on television, maybe Question Time.
I'm wary of people who are quite convinced of their own predictions. However Douglas Murray is an interesting character.

No one has said if they agree or disagree with Brigitte.  I agree with her.

It is not the peaceful majority in any community or country that has dictated or directed the politics, the wars and the atrocities.  They remain largely irrelevant, more so in a non democratic set up. It is the mad cap minority that usually directs such issues.

I also agree that political correctness should be given a burial.

And again (because I've asked this before) define 'political correctness' ?

Having now read it, it seems that the writer relies on a slippery slope argument. If a Muslim woman doesn't want to shake hands might she do something worse. Except not shaking hands is allowed and a certain amount of tolerance is acceptable in French society. The recent campaigns for marriage equality were opposed by many in the Catholics Church in France amongst others, would I be right to think that I might worry that they might not shake hands?

Common courtesy.
Qualification: sometimes it can get a bit silly, but better that than casual talk of wogs and niggers.

Yes! At 58 I'm old enough to remember people - colleagues, neighbours, anyone including kids - being hurt and insulted & provoked, the insulters believing it was their right to insult. Not even believing they were being insulting & accusing their victims of being hypersensitive! It was horrific & I for one am firmly behind political correctness because I have in the past smarted at hearing totally unacceptable comments.

I suppose it is not about the right to insult anyone or the right not to be insulted either.  It is about striking a balance and saying things that are obviously true without being personally rude to anyone.

Being polite and civilized is of course to be expected of everyone, which is quite different from being false.

I'd have thought 'political correctness' was about compliance with, or deference to, a particular mode of conduct, or expression or institution: it seems like an 'ought' to me, which raises the question who who determines what this 'ought' involves and the extent to which it can be subject to variation or redefinition over time, where an obvious example is in changes over time regarding the use of some language.

One one hand it could involve common courtesy and sensitivity but, on the other hand, it could involve limiting expression and imposing or maintaining authoritarian attitudes and privileges that constrain people so that they conduct themselves in line with the sensitivities and preferences of others - on balance I'd say the risks of being unthinkingly 'PC' for the sake of it, and at all times, outweigh any niceties.

hmm..

Anyway not seeing how PC is being invoked here. Brigitte Gabriel was not being rude or "non-PC" but just putting a few points in a robust manner.
Ah, but I was so much older then ... I'm younger than that now

The response seems to completely miss the point of the question. Part of the issue with the competitive cases is that fighting countries, even if you know not everyone in the country might support their position, is easy in comparison to dealing with the views of a non national state ideology. The other part is how you feel with those who are associated with a religion but not the specific part Merely saying that the bad people are the bad people seems a truism, and misses the issue.
