Apparently this has 'reignited' the anti vaccination 'debate'. I was npt aware that it had gone away, or that it is actually a proper debate.

As the article makes clear, we live with the luxury of not growing up with our friends and siblings dying of preventable disease, not losing our children, not having our kids dealing with long term health issues as a result of childhood illness.

I’ll tell you why vaccination was a hard one for me, and it was; nothing to do with Wakefield, but just the fact of taking a well child and making them ill, even though it’s better for them in the long run. One of my kids was terribly unwell after her MMR; another had adverse reactions to her baby imms that made her leg swell up like a balloon (‘it’s probably the mercury’.) Against that though I always held the tragic death of my friend’s son from meningitis - this was before the current vaccines were available. There’s no point in trying to find the words for how that was but it’s the worst thing I’ve known.

If you love your kids you get them vaccinated. It’s that simple.

But she would argue that she’s made an informed choice as an adult. She’s not suggesting tattooing her baby.

Indeed she has. I wonder why she has chosen to ignore the people who are informed with respect to her child's vaccination.

Because it’s parenting, and for some (many?) people logic goes out the window thanks to a mix of hormones, utter terror and love like you wouldn’t believe. It goes counter to your instincts as a mother to make your baby suffer, which vaccination does in the short term, and it feels like you take a leap of faith in the professionals every time you let them vaccinate your child.

The only problem is that she isn't actually parenting yet and her partner who is not pregnant seems to be complicit.

The first pregnancy is one of the worst times for nutcase paranoia. It gets better with second and subsequent pregnancies IME. Her partner may not be experiencing the hormones but he may well be no less terrified about getting it wrong, or it could just be that she's the one that has made the decision - she isn't going to put it all over Insta that he disagrees with her. He could just be biding his time. Who knows?

There has been a bad outbreak of measles in New York state and all unvaccinated children have been banned from public places.

I am of the opinion that unless there is a valid medical reason why a child should not be vaccinated against diseases more often associated with childhood, it should be illegal not to do so.

I agree with you LR, had no probs with my children but when I read what Rhi said about friends of hers it's quite frightening. We had friends with little boy who was in an awful state after MMR, including horrible rash around his eyes, and such things are frightening. He recovered thank goodness.
