We used to be famed the world over for our open attitude and welcome. Now we are a pathetic, narrow minded pile of racist bullshit.

It’s actually making me feel really sad. This country is becoming something I don’t like any more.

The Faragisation of Britain sickens me. I just want to pull the duvet over my head until the whole UKIP that’s now the Tory Party, effing useless Corbyn, irrelevant LibDem political disaster we’re enduring goes away.

Ditto. We’ve given voice to the small minded bigots and our politicians are too cowardly to lead us anymore. I no longer feel any pride at being British and I don’t recognize the country I was brought up in.

Jesus fucking wept, and well he might!

This country, contrary to a fair few others, has had a virtual open door policy ever since Empire Windrush! We are a small island with finite space and resources yet we wlcomed German Jews, Poles, Czechs, and refugees from virtually every conflict since.

Letting everyone in who we would like to swamps a limited jobs market, a limited space for homes, shops, factories, a Health Sevice that is being swamped more every day - France, a country that we have twice rescued from their own military ineptitude, which is of far greater size and a relatively less dense population than UK happilly shepherds refugees to Calais and turns a blind eye as they, the refugees, cross the Channel to UK.

Sooner or later, with or without further immigration, just via current birth rate, we are going to be living standing up for lack of space and eating Goddess knows what 'cos we have no more agricultural land.

Sooner or later, and probably sooner we are going to have to close our doors to protect all those here of whatever race and culture from the consequences of our habit of looking after ever underdog who comes, with or without justification, begging at our door to be let in!
The Holy Bible, probably the most diabolical work of fiction ever to be visited upon mankind.

An it harm none, do what you will; an it harm some, do what you must!

Rant of he Day?

Do you feel better for it?

As for small island - Great Britain is a very large island easily within the top 1 per cent of islands in term of size. In fact, considering land masses (EurAsiaAfrica,  America, Antarctica and Australia) Great Britain is the 13th largest land mass on Earth - or the 9th largest island.

Open to immigrants did not start with Windrush (and don't forget, the Windrush entrants were British citizens anyway). There was Jewish immigration for much of the first half of the 20th century and a fair part of the 19th, too. There was immigration from Ireland - how do you think the railways were built?

Earlier still, there was immigration from France - Huguenots escaping religious intolerance.  And so on ...

I live in an area where there is a significant Polish population. The came to work in agriculture doing jobs the "natives" refused to do. They are being assimilated. They add variety and diversity. They make the area more interesting. They work, they pay taxes, they contribute. They are filling holes in the national labour force. They add richness.

I remember wailing such as yours when the Ugandan Indians arrived. It would not be untrue to say that they have enriched the country.

One of the delights of life in the United Kingdom now is the cultural richness that comes from a diverse population. I have friends who are Chinese, Indian, Italian, Polish and I know few people who display any overt signs of prejudice towards anyone. As a teacher in HE one of my great delights was the wide ethnic and cultural variety who were sharing their ideas and perceptions with me.

As for swamping agriculture - last I heard the proportion of land that was urbanised was about 7% ...

You tell us about your belief system and its connection with Nature. Does it have a connection with Humanity, too?

It was bound to happen someday isn't it? When the cake is big enough everyone is willing to share. But as it gets smaller people become insecure.  Its natural.

This is a worldwide phenomenon.  Its happening in America, Europe and India. Open door policy is fine only as long as it does not affect the locals adversely. It cannot be a permanent policy.

'Britain has an open door policy' is a myth. It doesn't and it never had.

Sir Owl,

The 'local jobs' still exist. The problem in my rural part of the world is that local people don't want to pick strawberries or bag carrots. Farmers are having to let good food rot in the ground (some reports are saying as much as a third of their produce), shift production abroad or close their farms. This is directly affecting me because I'm noticing that fresh fruit especially is becoming less affordable. But more to the point, it is devastating agriculture. You know the famous Tiptree Jam company? They can't source enough British fruit any more and are looking to grow abroad, when we can grow more than enough. It's crazy.

That aside... I recently saw something on the BBC# website in which two young British Muslim guys of Egyptian heritage were asked if it is true that Muslims hate Britain. They said how much they love this country because it has allowed them to be who they are - Muslims, and gay. They said how grateful they are. That makes me proud. And it is in danger of ending.

Look at Farage and his ilk in their cheap blazers. Look at that cut rate bully boy Arron Banks. They don't want to close our borders, they want to return Britain to the 1950's - white, Christian, straight. You think it won't happen? Look who they hang out with - Trump and Russians. When Brexit ruins us which countries will be stepping in to prop up May and her cronies? It won't be the EU.

This isn't a policy targeting new migrants, but people who have lived here for decades, with their families. They are now told they aren't welcome. Who next? Because history shows it won't stop there. LGBT people? People with alternative lifestyles? You and me?

Why do you think he is right, rather just assert it?

That's where I've been going wrong.

When Ippy claims he is liberal, he means he's a neoconservative.

I try to live in the real world as I see it, I sometimes agree with most people in the various political parties, I never can find any party I really want to vote for.

It's only my opinion but putting my opinion crudely I think the Tories are far to hard, in fact cruel at times and very good at hiding this side of themselves, Labour I'm sure they mean well, but generally they're incompetent, Lib Dem, well away with the fairies, could be to kind a way to describe them, I've dismissed them from my own thoughts some time ago, many years ago.

Rob I had a look at this link of yours it looks like the article is about someone else calling themselves Douglas Murray, it might be a good idea to listen to him talking about this book of his and hear it from the horses mouth, it's so easy to find on YouTube there's no need for a link.

Surprisingly, even to many Labour supporters, the statistics show that Labour governments handle the economy better than Tory ones (as well as everything else). So I've read somewhere, anyway, but don't ask me for sources.
I once tried using "chicken" as a password, but was told it must contain a capital so I tried "chickenkiev"
On another occasion, I tried "beefstew", but was told it wasn't stroganoff.

This will be the sort of thing you are referring to Steve:

http://www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2016/03/13/the-conservatives-have-been-the-biggest-borrowers-over-the-last-70-years/

There are many other articles and analyses that point to the same basic conclusion.

It's a review of a book written by Douglas Murray. Just one review, there must be others.
I've seen him on youtube and read quite a few things he's written.
