In this country we seem eager to embrace, more often than not, the very worst of American culture. Why, I have no idea, they do have some good things that we don't, I can't think of one just at the moment but there must be some, but American Evangelical Fire and Brimstone preachers - Hell NO!

He’s actually s liberal and pro gay. Once people spend some time going to church and realise that most clergy aren’t like that they’ll get bored or disgusted.

I presume Alan approved of Bishop Curry's address at the wedding, I thought it was very good too, uplifting, even tho' he did go on a bit too long; what he talked about applied to everyone, not just Christians.

Owlswing this really doesn't affect you at all, you don't go to church never mind a church of England so why worry. Plenty more important things to worry about - like people resident in the UK not being allowed back into the country if they go abroad to care for sick relatives. Now that is something worthy of this thread's title.

I hate long sermons too. Not that I go to formal church v often but when I do I dislike it, being in favour of quiet, peaceful, introspective worship. Last thing I want is someone with big ego giving it large.

However I really did like Bishop Curry's address at the Sussex's wedding albeit it a bit too long. I appreciated what he said - his message. Different circumstances to an ordinary church service of course, no-one was there to worship as such but to celebrate - and he was funny as well as insightful and kind.
