Out for 147 - quite a finale.

The only cricketer in history to get a hundred and a fifty in both his first and last test matches.

England will miss him, especially as most of our other top order batsmen can’t compete at the highest level.

I don't really regard the West Indies as "the highest level" and it turned out that it wasn't just our top order batsmen that couldn't compete.

But if you can't compete at a level which you think isn't the highest, then you would be correct.

Well, I've heard of him, at least - 'Letter from America', and all that (or was that the Proclaimers?). Thought he died years ago.
Only joking. If I was going to get interested in any competitive sports, they'd probably be cycling and cricket. Hemel Hempstead has three cricket teams, the grounds of two of which are only about a quarter of a mile apart. If they were much closer, a hefty lob from the batsman on one ground could send the ball onto the other one.
I once tried using "chicken" as a password, but was told it must contain a capital so I tried "chickenkiev"
On another occasion, I tried "beefstew", but was told it wasn't stroganoff.

I was trying to convey the abject level of England's batting performance in the first innings.

The second innings doesn't seem to be going very well either and our bowling was not up to standard.
